What is wrong with you people? Can't you just read a book or magazine or sleep if you aren't driving? Look out the window? Count the blue cars? An hour in solitary and you all will be curled in a ball moaning for mommy.
happens every day all over the place. Just with Cell phones. Many of which you can't tell are recording.
Yes and for how long? 20 secs? 1 min? Table of friends? 360 view of the bar/restaurant/whatever?
Yes I would. Most people are civilized enough to go to the manager/bar tender and ask them to have the person turn off the camera or that they are leaving.
Manager? In a bar? Who is that? The bartender? Is he going to leave his station on a busy night to go talk to the person at the table in the corner filming? At best, not likely a rapid solution excecpt on a slow day.
Google glass is up front and personal. Eye level, quality video and audio. That is far different than an overhead security cam, even the best ones. The reaction is the same as if a person was recording with a hand held video camera in a bar. How well do you think that would be tolerated, especially if it was not directed at an immediate group of friends and short lived? How would you feel sitting in that bar with the other patron aimlessly recording for 30, 60 or more minutes? Would you be surprised if someone got up and knocked the camera out of their hand? Verbally berated them? Pushed them?
This is soooo freakin tired. And not just on/. Women are not stupid. Or no more so than men. If they want a career/job in comp. sci they certainly can figure out what to do. Can we stop wetting our pants that 51% of the work force in industry X is not women?
Shouldn't you also be looking at much earlier authors and comparing what they wrote to the state of events 50 odd years later? Would think there is a vast selection from 'golden age' sci-fi including Asimov,Heinlein, Pohl, etc. You can also find many old PopMechanics and similar magazines from the 40s, 50s, 60s with 'future' editions. How does what they wrote compare to what is being predicted by writers today?
You have to read to just about the end to get this:
Those concentrations do not confirm a health hazard, according to Jan Beyea, a prominent nuclear physicist specializing in the health effects of low-level radiation. They are no greater than common contamination worldwide from 20th-century nuclear fallout.
If you look closely, it is not all of thier customers. There is also a fair amount of subsidizing (what happens if/when that goes away?)
To me, I would rather have something like 20/10 or 25/25 at a cost of $15 or $20 a month than Giga at $70 or 80. 25 is more than enough for HD streaming and many (most?) times I download stuff I still do not pass 20 (I have access to 25/25 at another location for $75/mo). I might think different if I had a large family all streaming HD movies simultaneously but even so, I think the focus is better placed on lowering the cost of reasonable service while giving the smaller numbers who need/want much faster the option at more $. Right now just about everyone is getting fucked for $50 and up regardless of bandwidth.
From personal use/observation - they are helpful to get you up and running on a new language or one you have not had much exposure. They catch errors, help with syntax and api calls. But after a certain point they start to become more of a crutch.. almost training wheels. On reason for taking the training wheels off is to prove you actually can ride the bike. The same might be said of an IDE - after some period of time (months? years?) are you able to code without it? Do you really know what it is you are doing? Is the IDE holding back your own creativity?
Every each case is different, there is no black and white on this but I do think it may be worth stepping away from an IDE from time to time just to make sure you've not become over reliant.
for part of the year. The local carrier - an "independent" phone co (aka monopoly) gets most of its customers from 4 to 8 Mbps down but limits the upload speed to 0.8 unless you pay extra. That would be tolerable at $40/mo (understanding the problems or rurality) except that they force their customers to also purchase landline services. Including the various taxes and tithes (have you ever looked at the fees the feds charge for dsl?) and the monthly cost is now $70 which is decidedly not acceptable as I am a voip user.
The company claims that eekonomics dictates they require the landline but I wonder how VTel is able to survive without it? Well, apparently they do not - from Ars:
VTel is selling gigabit Internet for $29.95 or $34.95 per month, with no up-front installation fees. The service must be bought along with a landline telephone plan, putting the price range at $48 to $70 a month for gigabit Internet and phone service. A triple play package including TV costs $95 a month.
Add in taxes, etc and that $48 is certain to be pushing $60. Better than what I have, yes, but no panacea.
Phantomfive may want to go back and check his premises.
The ISP is responsible for his peering relationships - that is what makes the ISP a part of the internet. You seem to be saying that the sports team that sells you tickets to a game has no obligation to make sure that another team shows up to compete. They sold you tickets, gave you a seat in a stadium and their own team showed up. What, you wanted to see a game? Perhaps not the best analogy but you get the drift.
That isn't even the real point, though I understand where you are going with it. The real issue here is that Verizon, Comcast, Cablevision, etc all have agreed to provide their customers with X/Y data connections for a hefty monthly fee. They are refusing to do what it takes for those customers to be able to use what they have paid for. In effect, we are back to the early internet days of ISPs oversubscribing dialup lines except now it is oversubscribing routing equipment during peak hours.
As you note, the "right" to vote can pass along, as in mutual funds. Even so, you can still complain to the fund manager that they should not be giving carte blanche to corp boards when they vote shares. Unfortunately they are the worst offenders as the gain - reduced compensation packages - may at best represent a basis point. Is it worth the trouble?
As to local unions, that is a bit harder. Your elected officials have control over the contributions and they can certainly put pressure on the unions to vote their shares with good governance in mind. Its more complicated of course as those unions will have farmed the money out to portfolio managers who may or may not assume the voting rights.
Yes, in a way its a big circle jerk which is why I made the point about throwing up your arms and conceding. Its the easy thing to do. Some of the larger unions, such as TIAA-CREF have actual policy statements on corporate governance and their responsibilities. Of course, saying it and doing it are different things.
The bottom line is people seem to think its "only the rich" who control these decisions. But the average citizens in aggregate have far more power if they can only find a way to use it.
the attacker can gain the same access that the Android built in web browser has That doesn't sound that bad on the face of it and you can avoid entirely by using a different browser. It may not get you 100% security from the exploit but should get you pretty near.
The reason why CEO and other officer level pay is so high is because you keep paying them those astronomical sums. Shareholders are ultimatley in control of the board as well as most stock compensation programs. If the shareholders object, it will be changed. And don't say "oh well I don't own stock". You most certainly do.
Beyond the obvious direct or indirect ownership of shares outright or by mutual fund in a personal or retirement account or as a pension fund from your place of work, , as a tax payer you own shares indirectly. How? Through your tax payer contributions to things like police, fire and teacher union pension plans. And if you rent, you are still paying as your rent certainly includes the cost to the landlord of property taxes.
Now whether these salaries are actually bad or undeserved, that is another discussion. I would say to save the hate on the person getting the big bucks. You would do the same thing if you could. Should you begrudge the ball player who negotiates a large contract and then can't meet "expectations"? The team was not forced to sign him. If you demand too high a salary from your employer they too can walk (as can you if it is too low). Same goes for public unions. Officials elected by tax payers agree to the terms of the contract. Is there a gun to their head? Or does it just become easier to say yes and stop fighting inertia?
just wants to know which terrorists are going to the hospital and for what treatment. ordinary citizens have nothing to fear, it is only collecting meta-data about your bloodwork, x-rays, mri's......
I would argue you should have started a new corp just for the kickstarter campaign, the cost is pretty low even if you have someone do the paperwork for you. I think the more important point to be made is planning on many levels is essential.
They switched suits and.... same results. And more whining. from Davis:
"I think it was too many factors going on," he said. "I try to do the best I can, clearly. But there was so much stuff going on – with what's going on with this, what's going on with that, what's going to happen here. I really try not to make excuses for my performance because I worked really very hard, but I think if we can eliminate all those distractions and I could have just put that energy into performing and skating, it would have been a totally different outcome."
Can you say prima donna? Contrast to Alex Deibold medaling in boardercross today or even White, Jacobellis, Holland, heck even Bode Miller had more class.
In that case, come back in 12 to 15 years because you aren't going to build the probe now, nor will you have any good idea of the cost of the program 20 years hence. It is too far away.
while i do have a couple old ones floating around some where, I have not used a linux cd for anything to do with windows since XP.
in string theory so I'm not sure that has any relevance.
