Bah, I've used wine for many games and there are just too many glitches for my taste. If I wanted to deal with lock-ups and sluggishness, I would go back to Windows.
UnrealTournament 2003 comes with a Linux install, and I paid for that.
Oh, I used to run StarCraft and WarCraft III under Winex, but the slowness/lockups/sound problems just turned me off. Yeah, maybe I should have hacked this, or tweaked that, but to me it's just not worth it.
Seriously, this is silly. In the current economic crunch, all the companies I consult for are proceeding to streamline their business onto the internet, and in effect reducing cost beyond their imagination. As this continues, these companies are going to ensure that the internet grows and reaches more people.
Also, all of the off-shore outsourcing that is becoming so popular could not be done without a fast and robust internet...and we all know that is going to be a persistent trend.
Sure the internet is changing and people need to become more savvy to use it without getting frustrated. However, Humans have an amazing ability to adapt to new technology, despite the ever present naysayers of every technology.
Where I go to movies, you would get your ass kicked if you clapped during the movie. What is the point? It's not like the directors are sitting there appreciating your applause. Do people clap at home when they watch the DVD too? Human behavior can be so odd when you step back and look at it. Just go to a dance club and observe and analyze with that thought in mind; you'll see what I mean.
If you are patient, you can wait for the ultimate in cross-platform MMORPGs: Magicosm

I wouldn't pay a dime for something that doesn't run on Linux.
Is there any good software written for the GNU HURD kernel? A kernel isn't much fun without applications.
I loved the original Bard's Tale, though I doubt a new one would be written to run on my Linux machine. At least I'll have Magicosm.
