  1. Re:Artworks on Xara X to Be Released as Open Source · · Score: 1

Acorn is dead, but their OS lives on and is being developed by a couple of companies, for desktop and embedded use. Artworks 2.5 is almost out, and it runs on ARM based processors (StrongARM, XScale, etc). It's being developed by another company that bought the source code rights from Computer Concepts (now Xara). Xara's software is derived from their Artworks beginnings. There's more on RISC OS developments here.

Actually, it's a typo, and a case of not previewing the comment. I didn't take my application further because my grasp of foreign languages wasn't strong enough.

Really? I wanted to get into Reuters and chatting to one of their senior London subeditors. To get in, you need to know more than one language (preferably something other than French and German, as that's common now), pass standard journalism tests and hold any degree. Hell, I have an engineering degree. Think about it. Reuters sells news around the world to media outlets and companies. It's, commercially speaking, not in their interest to sell slanted news - because if they're biased, they'll drive away people who are sympathetic to whichever cause is being bashed.

  5. MORI looking for volunteers on UK To Start Biometric Passport Trials · · Score: 3, Interesting

As NTK pointed out last week, MORI are looking for people to take part and raises a point on skewed statistics, maybe?..

"Pollsters MORI will be ensuringthat the Digitised 10K will be a representative sample the UK population: and here's where it gets interesting. MORI are inviting people to apply. Assuming that those most worried about biometrics in society aren't going to leap at the chance to be fingerprinted in advance of the giant Orwellian (etc) database, why not help the sample from getting a bit too skewed? Plus who wouldn't want to mess with cool, hackable, potentially dystopian gadgets?"

Seems a oppotune time to get my passport renewed, perhaps.

I hate to reply to my own comment but it is misleading, I'm sorry. It most definiately doesn't look like a hoax. Debian already have a patch out - excellent work on their part.

  8. Is ths a hoax? on New ssh Exploit in the Wild · · Score: 2, Interesting

I just saw the comment in the nmap article and got worried. A friend online showed me this post..

"I wonder if this is in any way related to an incident I heard about on efnet's #openbsd where someone at a european con (hack the planet?) mentioned that details of a new openssh exploit had been taped to the openbsd tent (on the outside) whilst all the openbsd ppl were inside, drunk? I suppose if there is any merit to that story (and I'd rank it as no more than heresay myself, but it does paint a good picture of college level kids :) and it was details of some new vulnerability for which there is an exploit then it has been around for a while...assuming,of course, it is the same "bug"."

I haven't seen anywhere else online go nuts, which is usually how people react to SSH exploits. What's going on?
