  1. Short answer: BOYCOTT! on Interview Lawyers Who Defend Against RIAA Suits · · Score: 1

We at Boycott Riaa advise a total boycott of all RIAA affiliated music. Yes, that means you should do exactly what the RIAA pretends they want you to do. DON'T download or share their tunes. (Only support independent music with your interest!) The major labels know damn well that they would be much worse off if folks didn't promote their product for free via p2p and online sharing. (The dirty secret is that they actually WANT you to share those crappy .mp3 files. It helps them sell records.) PLEASE avoid being an un-paid promoter of corporate music.

TO THE AVERAGE AMERICAN CITIZEN AND MUSIC LISTENER
ABOUT ISSUES CONCERNING MUSIC DISTRIBUTION IN THE MODERN MEDIA MARKET

    FROM ALL SIDES WHO RESPOND

(TO BE AND ADMITEDLY BUT FAIRLY EDITED FOR PERTINENCE AND BREVITY!)

After some consideration I have decided to take time off from my day job, and even more painfully, from my independent music career to work on a project that hopefully will highlight some very important issues that I feel strongly about. You may feel strongly about them as well. You may agree with me, or you might feel differently. I am trying in my own way to give the average American music listener/fan/consumer an educational and informative way to decide for themselves about these views.

Even thought I am biased (and admit it up front!) I am going to rely on the views of the responders to make up the project I propose.

You are all hereby invited and challenged to a debate. You are hereby invited to participate in a national discourse.

I am going to keep it simple too.

Almost everyone has access to a camcorder in America. Get in front of one and spout/shout/opine/sublime/ your views about music and the distribution as it pertains to the modern culture and media. All who respond please understand and know that this is an intentional "shot to the arm" of the general public about these issues.

NOBODY, will make money off of this. YOU might even have to pay for your own time/comments and the VHS tape used to make your views known. And if you truly care about discourse in America, YOU may end up having to take the final product to your own local public access station to get it aired.

BUT in response, you WILL receive MY edited tit for tat of YOUR views as compared with those of the others. This is NOT a corporate project. ABSOLUTELY NOBODY will make any money from this. (And yes, even corporate music industry lawyers and spokespersons are invited to respond and provide their own comments!)

I may be one of the least qualified people to do this, but it needs to be done. I can only promise my best to get it aired on my own local access channel, and hope that all who participate do the same in their own local community.

The point is that we need to make the people educated on these issues.

No one else has stepped up to the plate in the TV world and this needs to be done! We (the public) NEED your comments!

    (Duh?)

    (For, or against, WHAT?)

    1. Conglomerated corporation domination of the media.
    2. P2P down-loader rights.
    3. Independent musicians who are the majority of the copyright owners in America.
    4. Copyright necessity.
    5. Who should own the airwaves and other channels.
    6. Mp3 technology and other digital compression formats.
    7. Fair use.
    8. Napster, then and now.
    9. KaZaa, Grokster, etc.

    11. Music/media distribution history in general.
    12. Yes, HISTORY of media.
    13. The internet and/or technology advances that make new music distribution possible... at least for now!
    14. Downloading music a crime?
    15. Do you buy the CD anyway?
    16. Tell me the name of the sites you use for news about all this!
    17. Tell me the name of YOUR band/group that is caught up in this transition from the old to the new way (yet to be decided) of music distribution and YOUR VIEW!
    18. YES, all legitimate artists who have at least 1 comment WILL be if at least one comment is submitted and they want that view shown on the tape.
    19. ALL respondents WILL be identified by NAME, STATE, and OCCUPATION (unless they indicate that they wish not to be!)
    20. ONLY coherent opinions will be included. I will ONLY include the BEST STATED and UNDERSTANDABLE of what you say... PLEASE speak your mind and only edit out what you DON'T WANT SHOWN!

I reserve the right to show or NOT show anything and everything you send me. ONCE AGAIN, there is NO MONEY INV

  3. P2P and YOUR ideas (from musician/fan perspective) on Kazaa Says On Track to Be Most-Downloaded Program · · Score: 1

The following is an IDEA ONLY (and not an implemented plan ...YET!) The idea, from my soapbox: "TO ALL WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE in the debate over P2P, internet media, online music freedom, etc. I want your COHERENT AND BEST stated comments! Pro or Against, it DOES NOT MATTER WHICH SIDE YOU TAKE! (as long it is your HONEST opinion!) I want short, concise statements from YOU on VHS tape (or other format, but I want to keep the access issue as simple for the respondent as possible) that best reflects YOUR view-point on these issues. (You or a friend just put the camera in your face and start talking about it as YOU feel about it!) I will edit the (hopefully) many sides and opinions into one half-hour or hour long documentary video with which to educate the thus far non-informed general public. If you submit, please state your first name and/or alias (full name if you don't mind about privacy issues) and relevent profession/occupation (musician/artist/fan/industry professional, lawyer, etc.) at the start of your comments. Please limit your comments to a few sentences. If you rant at length, you are subject to having only "edited" or possibly "out of context" statements aired. (Thus, edit YOURSELVES as to what you SAY! ONLY SAY WHAT YOU MEAN TO SAY!) Try to keep it down to something that can be used as a sound byte, (or several, if you have several!) If you must be lengthy in your opinions, don't expect to have your entire speech shown. The idea here is to present a LOT of DIFFERENT views about the issues in a quick paced way with divergent views back to back. VIEWER MAKES UP THIER OWN MIND! The target of this presentation is the AVERAGE (and on THESE issues thus far uneducated) AMERICAN TV VIEWER! The GOAL is to EDUCATE THEM! So, just grab a camcorder and tape yourself saying the most smart and well thought out comment you can about the entire entertainment/internet/p2p/napster/deregulation/et c/etc/etc controversy. Keep it short and concise, because we DO have to edit it all down to 30 min or 1 hr! We want divergent views, but we want HONEST views. (No, this is NOT a Hollywood auditon, so don't bother hamming it up for the cam... if your views are not relevent or well thought out or informational, they will not be used.!) YES, BOTH PRO AND AGAINST! (YOU define about what!) The concept behind this piece is to have NO bullshit commentators other than the comments presented BY YOU, one after the other. SNAP, SNAP, SNAP. Just one soundbyte after the other, for OR against. No flashy production values, ONLY FOCUS ON THE ISSUES ABOUT THE INTERNET AND P2P AND THE INDUSTRY AND THE FUTURE OF MUSIC DISTRIBUTION! The finished product will be presented as a PSA to the public. ABSOLUTELY NOBODY will be payed for their participation by the creators and participants in this piece. AND NO MONEY WILL BE MADE from presentation of this project. This is to be a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY! For the common good and by the common people!" Anyone want to help me with this idea? (Again, it is only an idea at this stage, depending on interested participation levels from VARIOUS viewpoint minded people!) George? --Shmoo, of Electric Gypsy "DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! DON'T JUST COMPLAIN!" Support Local and Independent Music!
