Soylent green has no connection to Morlocks.

The quote comes from film "Soylent Green" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070723/ and not from the novel "Timemachine" by HG Wells (or film by the same name).

Actually the technology is available. Sony calls it the i-Link and announced it already in 1999. http://products.sel.sony.com/semi/nr5c_dcp.html

It has been recently added to customer high-end products like SACD, Amplifiers and DVD-players. The backbone of the link is firewire cabling (maybe with sone mods, haven't checked). The RIAA monopolists should have no problem with this since DFM is added.

    No it does not.

I believe the court in Finland based it's decision on this fact. Microsoft has trademark for Windows -> almost automatic prevention to sell under that or very similar name.

Not that this has prevented the sale of Lindows. I just bought one perfectly legal copy from Lindows.com.

BTW. The court ruling was made couple of weeks ago and was not (yet) notified to Lindows. MS naturally knew.

I have a 486/33Mhz working as my firewall/router. No HD etc. but running like a champ. The firewall is running two SMC ISA cards (SMC Ultra Combo). Lately the "server" has started to make some noise (powersupply fan) so I may need to invest some euro to that.

I have also four ICL 486/25 waiting for a terminal experiment (with Linux not with an axe!). A 486/100 for other experiments and a P166 (with RedHat 9) for when the better half needs to surf and I need to look something from google.

Just yesterday I shocked my colleagues by saying that I build a RAID system out of two 120 disks. When saying they were 120MB one corrected me by saying "you mean Giga?" to with I just replied Mega!

I just hate to throw old but good and working stuff away!

I think we will be seeing people from SCO sending e-mails like these soon.

"Dear Sir/Madam, If there is any work in your business, home or kindergarden that might provide me with a some bread and/or water I would be extremely gratefull if you could employ me! I'm currently employed by the SCO-group but since our CEO started to sue EVERYONE in sight I would like to relocate from our offices as soon as possible.

    please, please answer soon.

But there is definite difference. With OpenSource there is no "hidden agenda" as such. Up to a point I also believe in giving free "samples" for promotion purposes or even out of good will or some other purpose. With the current MS moves it seems to me that sole purpose is to fortify the walls against all foes AND if they are destroyed in the process all the better. It might be legal but to me it is immoral. Law is a poor attempt to describe what is morally acceptable.

You need to think this in a another way. When there is NO landline built then skipping the wires alltogether and moving directly to cellular (standard is not important in this example) will save the telecom componies money AND is faster to build. Think about it, drag a base station in town centre and serve 500 people ~immediately when switched on (or some other figure...) when making the similar landline connection will require 500 housecalls and wires routed to all those houses. What the companies are chanrging is another issue and basically nothing to do with location or borders. When money is tight and I mean really tight, not just unable to go to movies to see Matrix tight. Phone is not a fashion statement but rather something to be valued. Data speeds are terrible but only compared to highspeed connections. If money is NOT an option use other technology...
