  1. Re:No LCD on iMac II to have LCD/Firewire/DVD/AirPort/new color · · Score: 1

    I think you right!

But.. if the iiMac comes with a TFT-screen then it won't have to have 2 form factors.. just more plastics around the smaller screen.

The new motherboard on wich iMac II will be based i called C2. C2 is based on the same chipset as G4's and iBook's are, the Uniform Motherboard Architecture, UMA. All UMA-boards have AGP-graphics, Ultra-ATA-bus, Firewire, USB, 10/100 Ethernet, and AirPort-technology. Therefor.. the iMac II will have AGP-graphics. But.. I don't think it'll have a AGP-slot, since the iMAc most definately will be very compact, especially since the rumor states that it'll have a TFT-display. It there are any expansionsolts, it's going to be a PCI-slot, probably 66MHz. The graphics will most likely be ATI Rage 128, since the Rage Mobility witch resides in the iBook isn't that good in a stationary computer.

    OK..

There are some really important diffenrences between the 400 and the 450 model.

The more expensive model got a completely new motherboard, sporting a new ROM-chip, AGP-graphics, three times as wide I/O, twice as fast PC-bus, supports twice the ammont of RAM, 3 Firewire-ports, double USB-busses, UltraATA/66-bus and wireless LAN.

Besides that the more expensive model got twice the RAM, twice as large hard drive, a DVD-drive, 20% faster CPU and a graphics-card with two ports, one digital and one analog.

The cheaper one is crippled but it's cheaper new than the older G3's were on a reabate.

Not quite.. I'm sitting on a PowerMac G3/333 and the CPU is 28 centigrades hot.. If i put a pen in my fan, it'll rise to 40C..

I don't think the cooling will be any problem at all.

You have all missed something really important!

These Sawtooth-based PowerMac G4's (450 and 500 flavour) have RAGE 128-cards with two ports.. one analog as usual, and a digital one specially made for the Cinama Display which is all digital.

I guess that this card can drive 2 separate displays simultaneously, not mirroring.

Give me anon ATI-carn with those specs in high volume at low price. Think not.

The _facts_ are that we don't know if Palpatine and Sidious are tha same person. Nowhere in the movie is it even _hinted_ that the are.

Sidious comment that he would take care of the Senate can just be like the way he took care of Naboo.. He didn't do it personally but through a subject or other means under his control.. the Trade Federation, Darth Maul or.. Senator Palpatine.

Palapatine and Sidious look alike, but Sidious is clearly older than Palpatine. At least to me..
I am therefor one of those who believe that Palpatine is a clone puppet to Sidious. The fact that neither Jedi could felt any "presance" when close to Palpatine should indicate more clearly than aything that Palpatine _is_not_ Sidious.
Their voices aren't identical either.. bur neither was Padme/Amidala's.

Sidious plan is probobly one of manouvering Palpatine into power, and then take his place as Emperor to be.

But.. nothing is certain until we see Episode II. and perhaps not even then. If I'd to pick the one thing that makes SW so great is that nothing is certain.. not even when you've been presented with the facts.

    My theories:

IF MAul is to return it can be in two manners:

    1) He get's to be cyborgified - the technology exists, but how useful wil he be? and he failed his quest didn't he?

    2) He's cloned.. Sidious probably wanted to protect his investment. Training one Maul is probably not that more easy than tringn to.. or ten.

And.. the double light-saber is probably just two ordinary ones put together.. and when Obi-Wan cuts it in halv, only one of them is broken.

but.. I really hope that Maul is buried.. A new, cool Sith Lord would be really neat.. and Maul's character is for ever put on the pantheon of Star Wars.. rest in peace Maul!

  9. Yoda isn't a martial arts expert on Episode II Rumours · · Score: 1

So.. I think it's quite obvios why Luke wasn't trained in the martial arts portion of the Jedi training.

    1) Yoda isn't about to do some kickin' nad flippin' through the air anytime soon. And Yoda is the only Jedi Master around.

    2) there wasn't much time.. let's concentrate on the important stuff, mind control, levitating rocks and such.

    3) Vader isn't a martial guy since he went cyborg, but he _is_ the chosen one, so lets's concentrate on mind control.

By the way.. martial arts.. The word originates from the Roman God Mars, the god of War. Alas.. Martial arts are the arts of war. By hand, by weapon, by diplomacy or by tactic.

Martial arts should therefor be a natural part of a Jedi's training. but.. Masters like Yoda probaply arn't as good in the traditional martial arts, than for example Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Darth Maul for that matter.. But.. I wouldn't want to meet him in a game of StarCraft ;) Or the pod races for that matter.

  10. Re:Comparing platforms on Team Slashdot leads SETI@Home · · Score: 1

I know that Linux probably is the fastest platform out thare, but I did my best to sharpen my iMac to the fullest.. That included minimizing time doing graphics witch do take a lot of time.

    Here's what I did:

    1) Used a tool named Peek-a-Boo to make SETO@Home run och "high" CPU-usage, instead of "normal" witch seem to be standard setting for every Mac-program. I guess I put SETI@Home not to be very 'nice'.
    2) I changed my monitor settings to 800x600, 16-bit
    3) Made SETI@Home go to blank screen after 1 minute (shortest time available)
    4) Put all SETI@Home-data on a RAM-disk. I would've put SETI@Home on the same RAM-disk if I didn't require it running from the startup-volume so it would function as a screensaver and blank the screen.
    5) Started SETI@Home and quitted every other running process, inkluding the Finder, with the help of Peek-a-Boo.

With all of that i was able to lower time per package from about 28h to just about 18h.

Quite nice for a 233MHz iMac I think.. If people who run SETI@Home on their 450MHz blue/white G3s did the same I guess they would effectively cut my time/package by half, especially since those macines got double the amount of back-side cache witch seem to speeden thnigs up a bit.

    Hardware: iMac, rev B, 233MHz, 64MB RAM, 512 kB cache, MacOS 8.6.
