I would agree that the average person who gets into an IIT is better than the average MIT entrant.
I present myself as case in point, I studied pretty hard for the IIT entrance (no social life for a whole year!) and couldnt get in.
The same year I took the SAT's to apply to US universities and got 1580 in them (780 verbal, 800 math; 99 percentile in both). And my preparation for the SAT's comprised doing two or three tests from Barrons and nothing else..
