Well, I know _many_ small IRC servers do. Most IRC servers are running FreeBSD. But most developement for IRCd is done for FreeBSD. Posibly because awhile back in linux you had to apply patches to get many file descriptors. However, if you look through dalnet's old server descriptions you will find voyager.dal.net and ohare.dal.net ran linux. Both of those servers actually have quit dalnet since then. Albeit, I forget the name of the network they moved though. I'll see if I can find the URL for the server descriptions a little bit later.
I have seen IRC "idling" competitions hit months. Most of these people are either A> On the local machine. or B> On the local ethernet. But it's still over TCP/IP. These competitions could get crazy if there was such a thing. Think about it. You might have some sort a database over a ethernet on TCP/IP that has been open for two years or something like that.
In popular science a while back they had a article on how much of the brain we actually use. It is a misconception that we only use a small partition of our brain. It is true that we don't use it ALL at once. If did use it all at once we would probaly be completely defunked, not smart. We use all of our brain at different times, for different functions. At least, according to the doctor that responded to the question in Popular science, which I concider a pretty good source.
How long did it take KDE to get KDE2.0 pre-alpha out after 1.0 was released? Remember KDE has been out quite a bit longer than GNOME. I like gnome a lot better than KDE due to the way it looks and it's license. I concider KDE an evil until QT2 is released. But after that, it's to each his own. I was looking at some of the KDE2 is it just me or does it look substainially more like GNOME? hmm
The best mp3 encoder is undoubtly Fraunhofer. It's the undisputed champion of mp3 quality. Out of the mp3 encoders I have used I have found lame in high-quality mode and a tweak found on the webpage to define smaller packs to be the closest to fraunhofer as the people who write lame said.. perhaps %90 of fraunhofer. Bladeenc is not suggested due to the fact it uses ISO encoding not pyscho-aucstic(sp) which is much better. I believe the l3enc is also based on that design. (correct me if I'm wrong l3enc people). Xing is also very fast and very good and support variable bit rates which can greatly increase quality. (Lame also supports VBR, though it cuts my compression time to 1/1.3 on a 450celery). I typical use lame with forced-joint stereo, and at a 160bit rate, If I use VBR I can get a better quality but at a big proformance cost. I hope this helps you.
Maybe you people should look into the kernel MagicKey... I have never used it but from what I hread it could maybe some how restore the keyboard to a sane-state.
I get much of the same thing only I get the home directory errors. I figure I should email loki with the strace on it.. 65meg d/l for a prog that won't run.. oh well.
Perhaps Qmail, but they don't run solaris. I've heard this common misconception, I have to wonder if it was published somewhere go to Netcraft and type in hotmail, com
Actually I just recently saw an add for Neoplanet(don't they use the mozilla layout engine, and such? correct me if I'm wrong) that said it now supported skins. The banner was flashing around stuff like makes your own skins! yada yada. Interesting... It seems everything is themeable these days...
I've been using some of the snapshots of mozilla it looks like it's going to be really nice. I'm glad to be gone with with that ugly MOTIF interface and it seems to handle tables really quick.
Called Pizzazz, the upcoming box -- now in beta testing and due sometime in October Now that we see IBM selling Pizzazzs is microsoft going to buy Pizza hut?
