"12. Can you tell me more about Google Talk and privacy?...
Google Talk currently does not encrypt chats or calls. But we are working hard to make many improvements to Google Talk while it is in beta, and we plan to fully support encryption of chats and calls before our official release."
Anyone know if the Google IM will support digital certificates for encryption and signing? This has been a nice feature in AIM. SSL/TLS is good, but having the option to use certificates is even better.
I recently ditched MS Outlook XP for Bloomba:
http://www.statalabs.com/
Nested email interface, much faster search speed, and SpamAssassin functionality.
The good it does is far outweighed by the bad. Just like everything else in life, mistakes will be made. You can have a problem with the process to correct mistakes, but advocating RDNS blacklisting should go away doesn't make sense.
Can someone explain to me how you would query a WHOIS database for a registrant or business name? Most of the WHOIS utilities I have seen only allow a user to search for a domain name, not other strings such as registrant name or business name. I'm wondering if this is how I've gotten spam to multiple accounts from different WHOIS records? (Sometimes with details about my websites, e.g. URL's from my sites.)
Today is the first time I've ever used the native AIM client, so I'm not sure if this option is supposed to have anything to do with the new certificate functionality.. but,
What does "Secure Chat" do when setting up a chat room? I don't see any docs on the website or in online help. Does this mean certificates are being used for encryption and signing between members of the chat room, in the same fashion as for the IM's?
I realize it's beta.. but if anyone knows, fill us in!
Many of these replies are misleading or totally incorrect.
Trillian does *NOT* do the "same thing".. This AOL beta, in addition to encryption using a certificate, is signing based on the certificate. Trillian does not have an option (as far as I can tell from the free version) to use certificates and/or sign messages.
Also, you do not need "Enterprise" services to use this functionality. I just tested it, and it works fine with the free client. Just get a free Thawte certificate, import it, and begin IM'ing with a friend who has done the same.
I just finished a couple years of online courses to finish up my fourth year of a Bachelor of Arts from UMASS Boston after I moved out of state.
If it hadn't been for online courses, I never would have received my degree from the university I had spent so much time at. Transferring credits would have been a nightmare, I already went through it once before.
My biggest beef was the online client.. Prometheus seemed pretty lame to me. One of my classes used Centra, which was a little better. As a group in one class we used Groove, but the standard complaints (speed, interface, etc.) apply there.
Is there an opensource project geared at this niche, to compete with the likes of Prometheus, Centra, and Groove? From my experience at least, the biggest thing holding back online courses is the cobbled together "environments"..
From http://www.google.com/talk/about.html, not much detail:

Hope this helps clears things up somewhat.
