1. Re:Awesome Demos on Programming As Art — 13 Amazing Code Demos · · Score: 1

Sorry for my terrible formatting before...here is the revised post. Anything from the demo group Farbrausch is guaranteed to be a good look. My personal recommendations include:

--> FR-08: By far, this is the best demo of them all. 13+ minutes of sheer graphical goodness. In 64kB...
--> FR-019: Awesome graphics, awesome music, just an incredible few minutes of sheer artistry.
--> FR-025: Awesome music, cool graphics, adjustable resolution and graphical options.
--> FR-041: Run this at the highest res you can and full options and you will make your graphics card cry. My ATI X1900XTX cant make it all the way through without artifacting due to heat. Only 177kB to boot...

For non-Farbrausch demos, check out:

--> "Heaven Seven" by Exceed: Again, just a beautiful few minutes of graphics. Hit the spacebar for a FPS counter. Only 64kB as well.
--> "Fall Equals Winter" by Replay: Not a exceedingly stunning graphic demo, but the music is awesome in this one. Tip, you may have to run it with the windowed mode switch (-w)

Already did ... Penn State University was almost immediately crosses off my list after I got accepted because I discovered their 1.5GB/week limits and draconian policies. If I am paying over $20,000 a year to attend school and live in their REQUIRED dormatories for two full years, I better receieve high speed internet access that is of equal or better quality than a high speed cable line for $40.00 per month. I hate penny pinchers.

You know, it is funny you mention the other effects of air pollution. I was reading about the new Porsche 911 Turbo. Amazing car, but I digress. If you drive this car is some metropolitan areas in the United States, Los Angeles was used as the example, the air coming out of the tail pipe is less toxic than the air going in to the engine. Kind of wild when you think about it, but kind of scary when you *really* think about it.

woh, woh, woh....

I know I haven't looked that closely at the iPhone, but it really doesn't have a user-replaceable battery????? Holy crap. Unless Apple devised some super-ultimate doesn't die quickly Li-Ion battery, I call waste of time and money. First, who here has actually held on to a cell phone for over 2 years, and secondly, who hasn't had a cell phone battery die and them and need to be replaced. If Apple seriously wants me to spend upwards of $500-600 on a cell phone, I better have some insane guarantee that the damn thing will last me at least 2 years, considering that is the contract's length. Otherwise, Apple or AT&T better have some amazing return policy for all the phones that only last an hour 18 month's in to the contract.

I am not a Mac hater, quite the contrary to be exact. I am a videographer and photographer that uses his Mac G5 for hours on end. Great product for what I need and there is no comparison out there.

So, with this logic used in this ruling... ...does that mean copy machine manufacturers are liable for people using their products to copy books, magazines, photos, money? does that mean computer manufacturers are liable for people using their products to infringe on copywright? where is the line drawn? blank CD companies? CD recorders? This ruling seems to encompass just about anyone on earth since most products can and may be used for facilitating copyrigbht infringements.

8. Re:Battery Life on Will the iPod Ever Die? · · Score: 1

I cannot comment for the life of the battery, becuase I have never had an iPod HDD last me that long. The 1.8" HDDs are so god dammed fragile in those things. Anyways, IMO, Apple has the most kickass warranty policy of any computer part manufacturer these days. EXAMPLE: 1. Paid $40 for a broken 60GB photo on eBay still with one year warraty 2. Went to Apple Store, bought 2 year warranty extension for $50 3. Proceeded to get refurbed replacement for free. When that one died, I took it back and got another refurb for free. When that one died, I took it back and got another refurb for free. So on and so forth until I am now on my 5th iPod in 18 months. 4. I had a Creative Zen Xtra before. I loved that thing, but the warranty was shit. After my original HDD in that died, I realized it can support any 2.5" laptop HDD on the market. I have a modded one for my car with a 100GB HDD right now...very nice. Anyways, I only resorted to replacing the HDD myself because the warranty expired, and there is no renewal or extension offered. 5. While the reliability of my iPods don't impress me, the sheer fact that they will replace it for free amazes me.

9. iPod Phone on Why the iPod is Losing its Cool · · Score: 1

I will probably get flamed for this, but why is everyone waiting and waiting and waiting for the iPod phone. Hate to break it to you, but I really do not see the iPod phone happening anytime soon, especially with Motorola's (crap) MP3 phones. I know this may seem like an insane idea to all the anti-Sony people out there, but why not purchase a Sony Ericsson W810i Quad Band cell phone. It was everything I was looking for in a cell phone: ~First and foremost, its a GSM quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 cell phone. It gets amazing quality calls and has amazing reception with T-Mobile. ~Second, an MP3 player - the SE W810i has an amazing MP3 player with a superb equalizer (that actually does something versus the iPod one that doesn't) The retail version comes with a 512MB Memory Stick Pro Duo (same used in the PSP). I then went to eBay and got a 4GB version for $70, shipped. This gives me the availability of keeping enough music to satisfy me. ~Third, it has a built-in 2 megapixel camera capable of 1632x1224 pictures. It also takes decent video. You can load your own MP4 files on the phone as well to watch. This isnt an advertisment for this phone, I am just trying to tell people there are better options than a ROKR/SLVR from Motorola. Plus, this phone was designed (this the Walkman branding) around music. The stock earphones are in-canal phones that are loud, clear and give GREAT bass response. The best part of all of this is that with a new subscription from T-Mobile, the phone is only $150 through JandR.com http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=41 28735 This is truly one of the finest phones out there and it more than enough to satisfy most music junkies. When I need the storage capacity, I have my Creative Nomad Zen Xtra that uses a standard laptop 2.5" HDD. I swapped out the stock 30GB for a 100GB and it works perfectly. I have found iPods are unreliable, fragile, and expensive compared to the rest of the industry. I dont need to pay $400 for a 60GB iPod.

10. Re:We can help the cause without using our $. on Circuit City Ripping DVDs for Users · · Score: 1

Maybe I just do not understand the DCMA, but why is it illegal for me to take the DVD that I legally purchased and convert it to a format I can play on my iPod/PSP? How does this violate copyright? How does this hurt film companies? It seems to me that the Film industry wants me to pay for each and every use I have for my film. It would be like if Honda charged me for a car that I could only go to school in. If I wanted to drive to the store, I would have to buy an entirely new car (with a crappier paint job for more money) Since I bought my car, I should be able to use it in whatever way I want (although if I break the law in the process, then I am liable) I don't see how the DCMA can even be considered legal under protection of copyright by saying that moving my DVD to a different format is somehow hurting the copyright owner. Why is the music and film industry getting special treatment under the law that no other company sees? If I buy a car, and want to change the engine in it, I can take it to any mechanic and get a new engine installed in it, WITHOUT having to pay the car company again. The record and movie execs are so greedy and malcontent with their ever increasing profits that they can get special treatment under LAW to pull shit like the DCMA. I for one support Circuit City and what they are trying to do: Get a draconian law repealed that serves no purpose other than padding some execs wallet.
