    Private keys stored in a smart card are secure so the equation is now: VPN + public key + smartcard = security.

    Well don't forget the VPN technology. It seems that public/private key encryption over a virtual private network is something that would take years to decrypt... and you know journalists are always shooting for the apocalyptic kind of stories...
