And speaking of copying Apple, did you check out the commercials they have on their site to view? All it takes is looking at a vidcap of one to say, "Hmm, white backround, person listening to an mp3 player and singing along...where have I seen this before?"

As much as I hate to say it, I am an Apple fan, a family that I have known for almost my whole life uses not just one wintel machine over 5+ years old, but TWO! One is a desktop machine the other is a laptop. The desktop is used for browsing the net, e-mail, and chatting. The laptop is an IBM Thinkpad running the business software that came with it (the guy deals in seeds for crops and stuff).

ps, if I had to get a pc laptop, I think I'd get an IBM Thinkpad.

I have a problem with your phrasing of Intel's "quad pumped horseshit". The PPC 970 uses a front side bus operating at half the processor speed but uses something which could be termed "double pumped." To quote arstechnica, "Not a whole lot is known about the 970's frontside bus, but I'll briefly list what we do know. First, it runs at 1/2 the core clock speed DDR. So for a 1.8GHz 970, the FSB will run at 900MHz DDR, which means that the bus itself physically runs at 450MHz but transfers data on the rising and falling beats of the clock." You decide for yourself. Goto http://arstechnica.com/cpu/03q1/ppc970/ppc970-4.ht ml#lsu-fsb and scroll about halfway down the page where they talk about bus speed.

Perhaps the reason why there are so few PC* rumor sites is because the companies that produce the parts and the software preannounce there stuff and have easily available product roadmaps. Apple doesn't do this. The keep stuff secret and don't let info out. When people don't have hard solid facts to look at, they turn to rumors and speculation. However, I would like to take this moment to point out the one tangible fact we know. PPC 970's are being produced RIGHT NOW. The question is if apple will use them and how. -Beowolf

I have read the arstechnica article you are referring to. The way they were describing the Altivec engine, it was meaning to make it sound "tacked on." They speculate this was done at Apple's request since Apple put all their chips in a single basket, that basket being Altivec. The implimentation of the altivec engine in the PPC 970's is said to be like that of the older G4's. The newer G4's have a more efficient implimentation of the Altivec engine which is not in the 970 design but is expected to be used in the 980 design. Sorry for no links or quotes of the original article, I just get lazy at three in the morning. -Beowolf

I submit the idea if there were a way for spammers to know that there smam was going to people over 18 and they did not use this system, they would be guilty on the basis of negligence. The current system uses credit cards/checking or something of the sort to verify the age. Such a system is also benificial to the spammer b/c they are only soliciting to people who are able to but from them. Maybe a subscribe to mail from this site confirmation e-mail if you are signed up in which you must provide a credit card # or something of the sort? True, it is more effort, but then again, it is more effort to get your brakes replaced than it is not to and end up hitting somebody. p.s. -This is a rehash of another post I made, but it was relevant here as well.

  8. lack of intent on Inappropriate Spam Reaching Children? · · Score: 1

I don't put forth the effort to get new brake pads for my vehicle because I don't want to spend the time/money. I end up hitting somebody and killing them b/c my brakes wouldn't work. It's involutary manslaughter and negligence. If there were some sort of age verification possible for the porn spammers and they did not use it, they would be guilty of showing porn to minors and negligence. I think something like this already exists too. How do porn sites verify age? Through credit cards or checking or something of that form. Additionally, this type of thing also would benifit spammers b/c they would only be sending out spam to those people who could spend money at their sites. A win win in my mind but I could be wrong. Any comments?
