Well... it has already made an impact, making people think of other ways to create art. It reminds me a lot of Duchamp, because it presents a different way of dealing with things. Long term impact I believe has to be measured by whether or not other artists take this idea and try things that the creators of this had never thought of.
And btw... the plotter paintings I've seen look kinda cool... however most of them are just from the plotter getting jammed and then the ink jet cartiridges making cool designs and pools of ink on what should be my speaker plot.
