  1. 'this is real' on P-P-P-PowerBook for a S-S-S-Scammer... · · Score: 1

Just looking at the pics, it smells of homestarrunner type humor... brilliant!

  2. Blame the voting system on Student Uncovers US Military Secrets · · Score: 1, Interesting

As far as either being a dem. or republican is concerned, blame the voting system, not the people.
Our voting system is designed for two parties.
I don't understand why we even let third parties run under our current system; it is destructive and benefits the minority.
I think we'd all be much happier under a Approval Voting, where you vote for all the candidates that you wouldn't mind seeing in office, and don't vote for those you wouldn't.
The problem is that the people in power owe their victory to the quirks of our current system.

  3. Re:only 5? on How to Build a Search Engine · · Score: 1

The more pages there are to search, the more likely the engine is to find the one you are looking for.
Hits are different from index size.

  4. put it in a menu on Making A Better Browser History · · Score: 1

I think that something like this would be more accessable in a simple menu showing a tree form of the graph:
Branches in the tree would be submenus. If there was more than one branch, place a "->" as the first item in the submenu, leading to a submenu for the next branch.

  5. My hat's off on Making A Better Browser History · · Score: 1

Now I feel bad that I didn't implement this back when I thought of it four years ago. It's a pretty simple idea, and I'm surprised noone else claims to have thought of it before as well: browser history is a graph, it should berepresented as such! With the number of new browsers out there, and not even a hint of something like this (Safari's snapback feature is the closest thing I can think of), I have to wonder... Oh well, my hat is off to the folks that actually implemented this, and quite beautiflly to boot!

  6. Re:Reversal of Fortune on Australian Record Industry Has Best Year Ever · · Score: 1
I considered myself lucky if, after all the advance work, I ended up with one out of three that actually made it into regular play.
Why were you so concerned about obtaining albums from hit bands? Did you have anything to gain from this? It sounds like you were conscious that what's played allot influences your own tastes, and that you wanted to be prepared for when this happened. Did you actually enjoy your music, or were you just concerned with having what's popular?
  7. Re:Not to mention on Mars Terraforming Debate · · Score: 2, Interesting

So what happens if we find some small microbes living on Mars? Should we then forego any plans that might disrupt their environment? Even if it might save our species in the long run?
