If the labels acknowledge a legitimate use for P2P programs, it would undercut their case as well as their zero-tolerance stance
Why would they acknowledge a legitimate use for P2P programs ? They want a complete control over prices and P2P has been causing them woes. Not only that, they have some strong backing from some Senators. Senators Back RIAA; First Suit Is Settled
According to Wikipedia: Vinod Khosla From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Vinod Khosla is a notable Silicon Valley venture capitalist.
A graduate from the Indian Institutes of Technology, Khosla was one of the original founders of Sun Microsystems. He founded Sun along with his Stanford University fellows Scott McNealy, Andy Bechtolsheim and a University of California, Berkeley post-doctorate Bill Joy.
Khosla always dreamt of being a millionaire as early as possible and so left Sun Microsystems in 1985 when he chased his dreams. Currently he is a general partner of the venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, where he has been since 1986.
Khosla is also one of the founding fathers of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).
According to the article: The family signed up for the Kazaa (search) music-swapping service three months ago, and paid a $29.99 service charge.
In that case RIAA should be suing Kazaa for providing service and content which they have no authorization to OR the family should be suing RIAA for misleading them OR maybe the family didnt read the License agreement...
But this makes me wonder as to what RIAA is doing about the websites that charge users fee and tell them they can download any number of unlicensed MP3s from their P2P application ??

Japan, China and South Korea plan to develop an alternative operating system to Windows
They could have just used Linux if they wanted an alternative but now they realize that companies like SCO are in Linux picture so they want something of their own.....
Any thoughts on how to 'wow' the little ones and make the older ones want to learn more about programming?
Well, after you are done 'wow'ing them, you might also wanna mention this: Programming is $60-an-hour software job (also done by a $6-an-hour code writer in India)
I think the whole thing should be under $7 for an average CD. Some exceptions would be top hits CDs where they have collection of most popular hits and due to larger number of tracks worth listening to, the price could be 12.98.
I use 192.168.0.0-xxx for my home network because a lot of businesses use 10.0.0.xxx and I have faced network access issues when connecting through VPN to business networks...
Well, it seems that they use a lens coating to correct image corners (could be affected by wear and tear). I thought it was ONLY a software based change in display drivers.
Yes, I had similar issues with one store which I wouldnt name here. But in other case, circuit city was able to retrieve my information from their system. Also, in a related case where it seemed quite deliberate, the manufacturer of Western Digital hard drives had some models with like $80 mail in rebate. To get the rebate, I was supposed to cut the bar-code from the box and mail it with my receipt form. I usually make a copy of the bar-code cut-out before I mail it for the rebate. But Western Digital was smart about it. The bar-code portion was shiny metallic look so that when you try to make a photo-copy, it comes out as black due to reflection which means that you are prevented from making a photocopy. I tried many photo copy machines but no luck. I finally was able to scan it and print it which wasnt as good as the original because metallic reflection. And then I mailed it to them but never got the rebate back. I called them about 8 times over a period of 4 months and they told me that they never received it. So it might seem that seller's are not at fault but sometimes they use these tricks from thermal paper to using bar-code on reflective background to their advantage !!
Embedding Amazon affiliate ID's into URL's, and not disclosing their presence, is really sleazy. Any bozo knows you can go to Amazon.com to read reviews of books, so this parent post shouldn't be modded "informative." It's just a scummy way to make a buck from unwitting Slashdot readers.
Embedding Amazon affiliate ID's into URL's ???? I am not affiliated with any of these websites nor do I buy from them. I found the links by simple google search so you don't have to do the little effort (since I already did it ) !!
If you don't believe me, just search yourself and you will get the same URLs !!
What a conincidence that all those links have your seller code. Accidental, I'm sure.

A new study by the McKinsey Global Institute, the think tank of the consulting firm McKinsey & Co., suggests why. When a firm ships a $60-an-hour software job to a $6-an-hour code writer in India, the most obvious benefit goes to the Indian. But, the McKinsey study reports, the U.S. economy receives at least two-thirds of the benefit from offshore outsourcing, compared with the third gained by the lower-wage countries receiving the jobs.
