This is great people are becoming climate-conscious.
Last month is was talking to my landlord about installing geothermal pumps to counter rising fuel costs because it's only 3-8 yrs investment before the payoff. To my great surprise, he didn't laugh at me!
Besides, sound economics have a long-term perspective. Imagine the impact of this on energy dependence, jobs, climate,... I guess Exxon and friends know that this could be much more beneficial than their actual business in terms of GDP, corporate profit, health, nature... even foreign policy!...and what about future generations?
You cannot expect someone to live in a stressed, hyper-rationalized environment which was conceived to make as much profit as possible, to be nice a care about others... Multinationals, as their name indicates, are not tide in one neighbor... so their are not influenced by social pressure as much as SMBs.
Besides, I would like to highlight that psychopathology/psychology is heavily influenced by our expectations as a society. Given a context, people should behave like that. Dr. Hare does that and creates a P-Scan-like form. However, during business hours pressured individuals forget their own values and act under the authority of their employer. Just read Milgram's experiments.
wake up! Don't judge actors only, but also contexts!
I went on the site of the mentionned company and it features a flash movie stating it's an IM that connects you with other buddies geographically near you (like 0.25 mile) and with the same interests...
If this was true, I think it could be very interesting: sometimes nice events happen in my neighborhood and I just miss them because I didn't know there was something happening... or those who don't know their neighbors? (disclosure: I know my neighbors!)
An app allowing you to discover the life in your community (neighbohood) while letting you to remain anonymous (if wanted) would be a hit. You could subscribe to local RSS feeds about social/cultural events, for example or find the association you were looking for.
To be used, such IM app would need to function with minimal self-disclosure... with IPs? I know there are free databases to segment IP per countries but, what about IP per cities/neighborhoods? Does anyone know something about that?
The net performs great to access stuff by subject but performs poorly to find things near me.
Because I would guess that if the Moon's mass decreased significantly (whether or not this is humanly possible), the gravitional force should attract the Moon towards the Earth... no?
It may be a silly question but...
Could a full scale exploitation of the Moon's minerals alter the satellite's mass and change its trajectory around the earth? Could that be plausible?
We never altered our Earth's mass as almost nothing quit the planet.
Cheers,
Eric
