  1. Re:Just curious... on Binary Package Formats Compared · · Score: 1

In a day? Not sure what ya mean.
But of all the packages that I've used over the years (instead of just compiling from source) I like slackware packages the best. They feel light weight, straight to the point, and miminal. You are expected to know your machine, libs you need, etc, etc. This leads you down the road of understanding what going on better I think.
If the packs are from the distro you can get the source packages and edit/recompile from the SlackBuild script with little effort.

But I still prefer source over 'em all. :)

No matter how many "packages" I see. Still love slack-packs the best.

Come with everything you need, esp created to make you learn what the hell your doing before you do it.

Perhaps we all need to switch to a p2p netlike (or resembles) something like whatt GNUnet is try to accomplish.

I've yet to test the current versions well, but it seems that (aside from a number of other good features) they are concerned with a good level of anonymity.

Combine this with the approach that Justin was gonna try with waste (i.e. a small (~30) group of "trusted" users). Perhaps with a requirement to share one file to "get in". Have it validated by an existing member to weed out the nosy peepers of the riaa folk. Not a perfect system, but what is?
