  7. Linux Lite! Yes Please! on Linux Lite? · · Score: 1

Funny that thins came up... I was thinking of makeing a simple version of linux... but one thing stoped me (knowledge) Things such as logging in and access to drives should be made simpler ... More like (dare I say it.) MAC or Amiga OS (disk in ... yes its there... not >mount vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy or whatever .. even the gui for this is dismal for beginers).. X windows also needs a beginers overhaul... its justa all too much.. too many options .. And too higher overheads for a GUI interface. Also another problem is unity... Lets face it guys, Linux comunity is split at the moment (KDE/Gnome/whatever windows manager... is a good eaxmple of split development... in which if everyone aimed for a a main goal and worked co-operativly we could have a much better product). A lite version of linux would have to come under a committed and unified Linux comunity, so we dont have so many diferent choices, and so we can all focus on getting things simple and easiy to use (sorry techo guys but I think we need to drop vi in a easy version of linux!) But above all what acronym would this be distributed under? CLINUX ? (Crappy Linux) SimLin or SimLix or SimLux ?(Simple Linux). And above that.. where do I signb up to help?

Well people may be thinking that Amiga (and its users [myself one of them]) may be just blowing smoke... well this may just be the case... but why would some company hire a heap of profesionals (and assuming they are paid) to sit back drink coffee eat donuts and pretend to be doing something??

Oh yea thats right we'll visit their web site and we'll have to clikc on 2c banners before we can enter, to see the new specs of this machine ! I DONT THINK SO.

They must be doing something and if all you Microslop haters want some more compition in the market then surely you should be supporting anyone that cares to speak out against a company thats worth 1/2 trillion dollars . . . .

and now how long have microslop been ranting on about their "new" "stable" OS ? hmm for about 18 YEARS! and we havent seen anything yet! Thats vapor ware, not a nice little company that is trying to get something new happening...

  10. Re:Fingers in their ears? on Amiga & Transmeta? · · Score: 1

I wrote to Rick le LeFaivre and got a message quite quick in responce... although it was to do with the usage of x:

"Thanks for the note, -----. We're continuing to look at other options to
X-Windows, but one clear advantage to having it available is that there will
be lots of Linux/X-Windows applications available soon that we'd like to be
able to run on the MCC. Most developers and users will never "see" X
directly, as it is basically some underlying software that manages bits on
the screen -- if we find something better to manage the bits (windows) on
the screen, we can use it.

Ease of use remains one of the primary goals of the development team.

    Rick"

So whatever ideas we have cant all be that bad in reality.... And hey we're all cynical about the new mig... but if it does live up to expectations I'm sure I wont be the only one buying the box.

Ive also got a hunch that the first new migs of the pres wont be Transmeta power, they will be Motorolla, caus Transmetas chip wont be out in time for migs release... However later in 2000 we'll see a mig model with Transmeta power..

Oh my crystal ball has foged up...

  11. amibiguity on SGIs Linux Future · · Score: 1

Putting all our hype together (ie SGI + Transmeta+ Amiga+ Linux +Partnerships ) can we speculate that there will be a home based sgi machine running linux kernal (with transmeta as chip no1) with the little boing ball up front as their logo??
