My credit card is shut off an average of at least once per week and I have to call up the bank, sit on hold, go through the whole verification process, go through the listing of my recent purchases, etc. Then go make my purchases again. I can tell the things that are going to trigger it, before it even happens. And nothing ever changes. For example, I buy something on Steam probably twice per week. I have for every week for almost eight years. Yet, inevitably, it triggers fraud detection on my card every two or three times.
The same happens with many other purchases, but Steam is the most common. I could understand, if they didn't have a database showing that I have made hundreds or thousands of purchases with them over the past decade. It also happens almost every time I order something from Apple. And many other places. . . . despite a history of buying things from them.
I appreciate them keeping an eye out and protecting me if someone gets my card and goes nuts, but it's not worth having to go through this hassle EVERY WEEK.
So they can sell your data to other businesses. Not to mention, how are they going to sell you Burger King advertisements when you're reading your online banking statements? (I use Bank of America and in-between actual entries of my statement, it lists things like "10% discount on Burger King!" or "6% discount on Star Bucks!". It's fucking tacky.
Unless they're boyscout leaders, teachers, or religious figures -- in which case they should just be moved around to positions in other locations, covered up, and protected by their organizations.
Either that or you just figure a judge is best positioned to determine such punishment in relation to the specific individual incident at hand (you know, what judges are paid to do for a living) rather than just have sweeping generalized mandatory punishments because most of society likes to jerk themselves off into a frenzy over everything.
That's the point and that is the long-game being played, here.
Ultimately, "for the children", they will enforce use of real identities for all individuals on the internet. At the very least, there will have to be a registered real identity that is easily referenced for anyone in "authority" without need for a warrant. Ideally (in their mind), your real identity will simply be all you have to act under while online, presented to everyone.
If "bullies durp durp durp" doesn't do it, then "sex offenders durp durp durp!".
Not to mention, if we're so afraid of these people that we have to put scarlet A's on their doors and mailboxes, have then register every activity and location and method of contact on earth, etc, etc... then why the fuck are we even letting them out of prison, in the first place? Either someone has served the time for their crime and has been determined safe to re-enter society or they aren't. (Probation, yadda yadda).
I had no idea there was a new Bond film coming, but if it's still coming out in 2012, then that is six years between bond films. Last I saw, Daniel Craig (who I'm a big fan of as bond) was getting kind of old looking (hey, you only have a few years in which you aren't a child Bond or elderly Bond, to be fair). If they space them out this far apart, he's not going to have any more Bond films left in him.
In a supposedly post-PC world where the desktop is dead and every "website" is just a fucking application behind a little square icon, does it even fucking matter, anymore?
If the voting facilitation machines fail, that means we risk having a douche bag elected rather than a douche bag! We need to correct this, immediately, so we can make sure a douche bag is elected, instead of a douche bag!
If I'm going to go with one big evil super corporation with ties to government agencies and concerns about privacy and yadda yadda, I might as well use the one I've used for years that is between free and super cheap and way less bloated -- Google Voice.
Exactly. It's just like all these old guys in their 30s and 40s or even 50s who learned C and C++ and are currently unemployed, because nobody uses C and/or C++ anymore and these old geezers didn't bother learning CoffeeScript, Clojure, Haskell, GO, and HTML5 which has ubiquitously replaced C/C++ all across the industry.
It was a nice ride for those fat-cat geezers, for the five or ten years that C/C++ was used in the industry. It's just such a shame everyone has moved on and everything in the industry runs on Ruby and Chrome OS, now. Gosh.
Not only that, but $80 per year for up to FOUR PEOPLE to use the account. In addition to my own use, I have three other people spread across the country who benefit by being able to order things on Amazon using two day free shipping or $3.99 overnight shipping, just like I can. All without paying a single extra cent.
Exactly. Instead of shopping online at Amazon (where the supplier of the Amazon-fulfilled shipment is often a small business or mom and pop), make sure to shop locally, at mom and pop shops that still exist, like Walmart, Best Buy, or Target.
I'm not judging the quality of the shows that you watched, but if you added up all the time you spent watching TV shows you would see that you "wasted" lots of hours when you could have been starting a new businesses, working a second job, posting replies on slashdot or something that that could have instead added up to thousands of dollars in your pocket. So in a way, yes, you wasted all that time and have nothing to show for it.
The basic goal was $2m. The extended goals were $3m, $4m, $6m (it looks like they've since added them at every 500k, though).
At any rate, having the extended goals seems a little unnecessary. They're going to have a hell of a time accomplishing even the most basic concept at three million bucks -- even considering that this funding isn't to create the whole game, but just to help get a showing of support to then reach out to more traditional investment (as they already stated at the beginning of the fundraising).
I think it's more that it's just an enduring internal conflict between the reality they know and the education they've acquired with the life-long indoctrination of oogity-boogity that everyone they grew up around instilled in them. If you spent two decades marinating in something that was presented as simply being a part of reality from the day you were born, it's probably going to undermine the logic you approach the rest of your life with.
On the other hand, if you presented the same concepts and beliefs to someone two decades into their life for the first time, they're likely to reject it for all the logical reasons they would reject any other ridiculous concept.
I wouldn't claim that religious people are all idiots anymore than I would claim a very smart person who believes in numerology is an idiot. They hold a very stupid and ignorant belief, but that doesn't render everything about them stupid. However, in many instances, it can be a really great indicator.
Seriously, you are a fucking moron. You've made it clear from your last two posts that nobody can have an intelligent discussion with you. Go back to trolling the discussion sections of the articles drudgereport links to.
It's not just an issue of "bible thumpers". There are plenty of religious people in my office. I couldn't care less. They're all nice people that I enjoy working with. I also enjoy Christmas. I mean, it's an awesome time full of gifts and cold weather and decorations and gatherings. I'm not going to piss myself over it being called Christmas, because I just don't give a shit.
But when religion determines who can and can not get married (something that has nothing to do with religion), manipulates society, denigrates entire groups of society, benefits from tax exemptions, promotes anti-constitutional stripping of people's rights, influences things like MPAA ratings, influences politics (every politician has to kiss religious ass and pretend to be religious and imply that he's going to push for religious assertions in government), influences education and scientific progress . . . then fuck them.
You can believe whatever you want, but when it begins to impact other human beings, fuck you in the fucking face, as far as I'm concerned.
Atheist isn't an assertion of there being no god. Do people not have fucking dictionaries? The word a-theist simply means one who does not subscribe to any theist belief. It's dumb that the word even has to exist. Is there a word for people who are not astronomers? A word for people who are not cartographers? A word for people who are not lawyers? Of course not.
Nobody gives a shit about your religion. They give a shit about the impact of imposing your religion on our society, government, laws, education, science. People give a shit about it, because you wield it to prevent people from living their lives as they see fit. It seems to be your overall imperative to inflict your morality and ignorance on the rest of society in every aspect and, when anyone takes issue with how you are impacting other people who don't care about your mythological crap, you whine and bitch about how they are just uppity busy-bodies who should just shut the fuck up and keep their non-belief to themselves while you go about continuing to impose your shit on everyone.
If the roles in the story were reversed, all the Christians would be shouting about how the guy should just keep his beliefs to himself and shut the fuck up. But since he's religious, they're going to shout that he's being oppressed, just like the other 90% of America that are the "religious minority".
Unfortunately, fraud detection works for shit.
My credit card is shut off an average of at least once per week and I have to call up the bank, sit on hold, go through the whole verification process, go through the listing of my recent purchases, etc. Then go make my purchases again. Most of them are dead. We haven't been at war in 65 years.
Likewise, Janet Jackson should be registered as a sex-offender, right? :)
Unless they're boyscout leaders, teachers, or religious figures -- in which case they should just be moved around to positions in other locations, covered up, and protected by their organizations.

Sounds like Bob has found a way to ensure his continued employment and everyone around is too spineless to play that game of chicken with him.

I believe Paganism is even older than the most popular religions in America. Therefore, it must be be even more legitimate.
I wouldn't claim that religious people are all idiots anymore than I would claim a very smart person who believes in numerology is an idiot. They hold a very stupid and ignorant belief, but that doesn't render everything about them stupid. However, in many instances, it can be a really great indicator.
I am a devout non-astronomer!
