  1. isn't necessarily spyware on Teacher Julie Amero Gets a New Trial · · Score: 1

I haven't seen any comments to suggest: Maybe one of these kids said hey, watch this, and manually entered some tgp site into the URL bar, or googled "fuck" or something, even better used images.google.com. It could take just a few seconds to bring up a porn site with a raft of popups. I think that's the most likely scenario. No matter what, the school district is surely scapegoating Ms. Amero so they don't get sued, maybe the prosecutor or chief of police is corrupt enough to go along. A foolish and sorry business.

  4. Re:How not to... on Help for an MMORPG Addict? · · Score: 1

My real-life name is Michael Graham. I am safe telling you that, because there are thousands of us. I once saw the total number of us at a JC I took some classes at, back in '88, there were 8 at the time each with distinct SS #s, there must be far more now. You can google me, and find thousands of links, only 1 is actually me (I don't have much 'Net presence). So, if another Michael Graham gets his account banned, then I'm screwed and unhappy, along with probably 10 - 20 other WoW players. Blizzard can't ban accounts based on a name.

  5. Veritas and AV sometimes conflict.... on Symantec to Buy Veritas · · Score: 1

...at least in my experience. AV programs sometimes spout scan errors during backups, both with regular files and Exchange IS backups. Don't know if this is an issue with Symantec, but I'm sure they could offer better integration than others, and maybe lay some Easter eggs ;-)

  6. Gygax on A Family IT/Tech Business?? · · Score: 1

Just remember the plight of Gary Gygax, the original author of Dungeons & Dragons. He gave 1% of his business, TSR, to his new wife (1st?) as a wedding gift. They later divorced, so she got 50% of his share in the business at the time of the divorce. Others had shares too, but she had more than he did, and got him booted out.
[nerd rant] As a 13 year-old reading the DMG, I learned all kinds of important stuff, for instance there is a terminal velocity of the human body. The 3rd edition has better rules, but it's relatively commercialized. I love Harn. [/nerd rant]
So sue me. I don't know how to escape >

  7. If you want an expensive solution... on How Do You Manage Requests in Your Organization? · · Score: 1

I've used Remedy, SAP and Siebel. SAP is the very worst, it's not even designed really for a CRM application. IMO, stay as far away as possible. Siebel is decent but the only interface is through IE 6, and you can't have Sun's JVM installed. The interface has lots of click-throughs, instead of opening new windows AND you can only see 20 tickets in a view, which is very inconvenient if you're looking for a needle in a haystack. Remedy is excellent, very flexible/customizable for the end-user and you can run scripts to create massive amounts of tickets and to extract data. The downside--the native interface doesn't work very well through a WAN connection because, when you run a query, it pulls the entire ticket, not just the header as Siebel and SAP do. Hope this helps.
