Yes, you are quite correct, infact I've been using ADO ad-hoc in Excel VBA for a couple of months (it was not a pleasant experience, but VBA never is).
I do a little DB development. The basic difference is a DB system like MySQL, Oracle or SyBase is that the 'DB' is the back-end (indeed it is a server-type process) which is interrogated by SQL statements (the front end may be built in C++, VBA, whatever), whereas something like Access is an all-in-one solution with the back-end and the front-end in the same app mish-mashed together (it may purport to be SQL-like, but only from within the app, not as a server) - I think MS still provide Foxpro as Access simple can't hack really big work. So an SQL-type database is the classic client-server, Access and Paradox don't seperate front and back ends (they say they can be split, but that is a bit of a bodge job).
you posted from the article, "They called secretaries and said, 'I need to get in to do a repair. You need to give me the number and password.' Sometimes they succeeded, or else they'd get only the number and try to break the password by using proprietary programs."
sounds like normal boring phreakers to me.
But they make news because they are blind.
DAMNIT why could'nt I have been born blind so I could make the news!
The only advantage they have is being blind. Being blind is not an advantage.
If you think it is you are a damn fool. You have a pair of ears, becoming blind does not magically make your hearing better but reliance on hearing increases. Have you ever tried training hearing, if not then stop posting BS saying if you ask me, being blind only makes it easier for them to do these tricks, how about you sit down an hour a day and do some training? Better that than posting crap.

OK, I hate this sort of post normally but this time it is justified.
Normal phreakers cannot hear and instantly memorise touch tones, normal phreakers don't get away with large-scale crime taking down a p0rn empire, normal phreakers don't get away with it.
As mentioned in replies earlier, these guys were elite hackers, and as far as I know elite hackers _do_ get a mention on/. and wired. How about you hone your skills as well as them, then start wishing to be blind.
You quoted They called secretaries and said, 'I need to get in to do a repair. You need to give me the number and password.' Sometimes they succeeded, or else they'd get only the number and try to break the password by using proprietary programs, did you read the following sentence?
Why should I choose KOffice, or OpenOffice. Having a choice is great (and most Linux/XWindows systems will accomodate both) but why should I choose one over the other?
$300 for a jizz scene?! That's cheaper than a rent boy! You should be able to command $2000+ unless you are really ugly (but there's probably a niche for that so ugly guys could earn more!!!).
Would a thief steal a car they would be pulled over in within 2 minutes, or would a thief steal a car they would be confident of driving 100 miles in? It is a trade-off of value vs. success time, but low value cars often become the victims. OTOH I'm sure a 50K Merc is far more likely to be keyed than a 3K Ford.
Seriously, would you prefer Michael Howard??? Michael Portillo would be great, Billie Hague maybe, Duncan Smith nooo way (see how he has screwed up his Chingford constituency), John Major possibly (for ever a 'good bloke' but never s strong man).
The Tories would have been eliminated anyway, Blair is a better prospect at alternate leader than Prescott was, Brown would be pretty good IMHO (especially if you like moody Scots), but there are very very few prospectors better than Blair. Michael Howard is a joke, some may say a slimey lizard masturbator of conservaism, I just say crap.
It was Gordon Brown, not Tony Blair, and Blair's not too happy. And what is your deal with Blair, would you prefer Michael Howard in control of the country (remember the Newsnight interview), or John Major, or Ken Livingstone?
To correct myself... because he's not a citizen of a Commonwealth country (were he Canadian he could be called 'Sir'), rather than purely Britain itself.
KazaaLite uses the ~2.4 protocol. The slightly tighter 2.6 protocol on a supernode has a feature to block old (pre 2.5) protocol clients, so 2.6 running on any significant amount of these supernodes would seriously disrupt and fragment the network for 2.2 users. KazaaLite never progressed to 2.6 and now older clients are starting to be blocked from supernodes.
Not the money, the quick money. Abuse something while running it into the ground. If that is not a problem for you then fine, but I'd prefer to support something which can make money with a long term sustainable solution, and that would develop better things/systems/products for the future, not kill the present for a fast buck.
If you prefer the fast buck over a sustainable win-win future (which is what P2P and ammendment of copyright/IP laws are) that is up to you.
They are probably trying to comprehend 'michael''s "Dear NYT editors: "Copy Left" really shouldn't have a space in it. Thanks.", he should have used inverted commas instead of speech marks.
I'm not sure why, but I am beginning to understand the community feeling of hate towards 'michael' simply by his attempting to slant comments in his way of favour.
Slashdot is not a news source, it is a news aggregator, but appending the aggregation of stories with comments by the editors with effect to bias the stories creates an unnecessary and unwelcome burden and liability. Upon me as a reader, upon other readers (what do you think?, informative comments vs. someone's opinion), and upo/. and OSDN as a whole.
Sharman Network are no P2P heros. They took over the disbanded Kazaa (after the Dutch court case), implanted huge amounts of Spyware^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Adware and have ruthlessly ruled over the Fasttrack network, shutting down Kazaa Lite, barring other P2P clients etc. They are in this to keep their quick buck rolling, not for the good of P2P (bittorent, WinMX etc), not to tackle the establishment's copyright encorcement, but purely to extract a few more dollars from Kazaa users.
You hit the nail on the head, value = transaction price, I'm glad someone here can think straight.
One could run in cirlces a la Marx suggesting 'value' was purely the cost of production (no matter how unwanted the product was), or take a purley Ricardian perspective, but these are false logic.
This is an earlier post, parent has a history of posting others' arguments very soon after they have posted them.

Wikipedia has a more thorough discussion here (for SQL) and here (databases in general but quite a read)

that was not haiku
haiku must refer to some

Then you, sir, are a mad man.
Has a very butch chin and very butch forearms, IMHO.

Because he's not a British citizen he can't officially be called 'Sir' Bill Gates, just Bill Gates KBE (no, not KDE).

It appears that every time Spirit tries to load the software it encounters a problem and then tries to re-boot
So the speculation is correct, Spirit does run WinCE.
Phobos... Doom... Quake??? No no no! That is Unreal Tournament!
BTW, UT kicks the ass of Doom and Quake.

I suggest you look up the meaning of economic value. Trust me, I'm an economist.
