Yes clearly the current system of releasing new versions of a text for $100 every year prevents this kind of nonsense.

Thankfully using your tax dollars to purchase the latest edition every year will no doubt ensure the highests level of "standard" facts are presented to students.
Of course the "Text and Academic Authors Association" insists these prices are the studnets faut and would go away if we would just stop reselling complimentary textbooks.

I'd love to have something I can use to point-and-click peoples' cigarettes out without the wet mess of a supersoaker.

Easy enough, fill it with ethanol or your favorite flammable vapor. No cherry smell, no pretty smoke rings, but it should be clear when it reaches the cigarette.

People seem very determined to keep their biological code closed source. Do you really think that your DNA will reveal a high risk of heat disease or diabetes that doesn't appear in your family history? Do you think a genetic predisposition puts you a much higher risk, and therefore raises your insurance costs proportionatly more, than smoking? Maybe you are at risk for a serious heath problem. I'd rather have it known and on my medical history, that way I might actually be able to treat it.

How much current can you survive? physics.mps.ohio-state.edu

That's right as little as 0.1 amps can be fatal. A standard wall socket can supply 20 amps.
Now off you go to build your very own lifter.

For those of you who read the article and see that yes it is possible and no it's not anti-gravity; you might want to do a quick calculation of the breakdown voltage of air. (Lookup Paschen's Law in a physics textbook.) So you have an estimate of how far your high voltage supply can arc and how close you can let the cats get to your lifter.
