AmiPro was about the best word processor around in it day (at least for Windows - Word Perfect 5.1 ruled dos)! I bet it would run like a dream under Wine. The downside is that I can't find it anymore (I know that lotus changed the name to WordPro for their suite...it's an abomination)...and my original disks have long since dissapeard.

    Oh well, such is life.

I've been thinking about this for some time now! A completely independent geek state. However, most geeks aren't of the 'political' variety. In order for this state to work well, we would need some form of gov't. My dream is of a new system based somewhere in between 'true' communism, and 'true' democracy. Hopefully the economic system would be more on the gift-culture side than capitalist (I admit we wouldn't be where we are today without capitalism, but it has had its day)!

    Just my thoughts (and dreams).

Usurper was my favourite...I wast^H^H^H^Hspent so many hours playing it (you all know relatively how many). My friend and I had a board, and that was definitely the game in highest demand. I was so addicted that I got it to run stand-alone, so that my brothers and I could play.

If I had moderator points, I would moderate this up! You should use what is best for your situation, and Signal11 illustrates better than most the reasons why Linux isn't perfect for every situation.

Although I would like to see Linux installed on every machine possible, I have to admit that it has a long way to go. (I don't usually admit this, btw). My negative comments are based on what I saw at work today. People just can't handle point-and-click yet (that's really sad)...

Given time, Linux will become the most stable, flexible, generally usable operating system the world has known (by generally, I mean by the people I work with!). Unfortuanately, that day hasn't come yet!

We have to keep up that momentum that has propelled us this far!

This is an enlightenment (i assume that's what you're using) issue. Although I love its flexibility, it does come with some odd defaults (such as weird keyboard focus)...I recommend mucking around with the E settings to resolve this tho!

This is about the best thing for OSS right now. (Although I'm surprised that we haven't seen this before, given school budgets, etc.) When other school boards see that this is a **cheap**, but effective solution, we will see more and more come on board. This means that more young people will be using it, and becoming familiar with it! Little Johnny will go home and ask his parents why they don't have it, etc. Education is an excellent sector for Linux to be embraced by! This can only mean BIG things.

Here in the North (Thunder Bay, ON, CA) our campus has been wired for three years now! Lakehead University has a large 10-base-T network fed by a couple T1's. Just last year they extended the service into the townhouses on campus. Moving off campus and back into the realm of 56k dialup is rather painful I must admit. However Shaw should have it's cable service installed shortly!
