At least one ISP has responded to these sort of requests with a "so where's your billing address, RIAA?" I think they were in New Orleans, and they certainly have a point. Why should ISPs police their networks and eliminate revenue without compensation?
More and more of the music I get into is independent. Much of it is self-released (The Turn-Ons are a good recent example).
Side note: Radiohead "self-releasing" is a joke, as they were propped up by major labels for years beforehand and had a well-established fan base.
Any kind of offensive in this climate by the RIAA is just silly. They are so irrelevant.
If they shut down Another Greast Music Tracker, I'm going to law school.
Give me each signal on a mixer with the song playing in sync and a nice pair of headphones. With many recordings, I will be able to tell.
I really don't get this. I didn't state any universal absolute, and a bunch of people got on my ass (I'm the grandparent). If I had said "MP3 sounds bad," your posts and this argument would be valid. But there is no disputing matters of taste and I said to my ears.
I have more discriminating taste than many, yes. That doesn't make me or anyone else wrong. I train my ear to recognize subtle differences in sounds--I'm a musician. Most of you probably don't. Most of you probably couldn't tell Just Intonation from Equal Temperament. I can. You could too, if you trained your ears. I have.
Stop treating legitimate comments and concerns like flamebait.
You replied to the post I made as Anonymous Coward (I forgot I had an account).
I can distinguish, friend. Some people have more sensitive ears than others. Some people have nicer equipment that makes it more apparent.
There is nothing elitist about this.
I guess that when they say "the internet" they dont include AIM, IRC, chatting on Direct Connect hubs, etc. The only time I spend on the WWW is my Mac rumor sites,/., and a couple forums. I spend all of my time either in my room, or outside.
My parents will ask me "Why don't you ever come downstairs and spend time with the family?" And do what? Stare at the newest episode of Fear Factor all glassy eyed as you do? Only talk to my family during commercials, and even then all they can talk about is what was on the TV?
I, and many others my age, despise TV. I also despise just about every Hollywood movie, and the majority of music out there (I don't want to hear an add for Snoop Dogg's clothing line, I just want to listen to music).
The internet is my only "media" escape from all of the crap out there. I hardly see any ads, no intrusive pop-ups. My spam filter works nicely. I can download whatever I want whenever I want.
But studies like this are for the worst. Remember a couple decades back, video games were quickly growing to be the number one thing for teens to do? Remember all of the lobbying done by Hollywood/Viacom/EMI/etc to make sure the video game industry was slowed down?
How is it that the US government can buy $90 million worth of software, when they know they are being overcharged and could be getting more a secure product for free?

Um... No. Eat shit all your life and you start to think its gravy?
Impressive.

I remember noticing a movie in my local video rental place called "Gay Niggers from Outer Space." Good times.

Is there a guide out there to modding an inkjet yourself? I can't even afford to have a printer, I just get by without.
