  4. Re:his worst argument... on Viruses and Market Dominance - Myth or Fact? · · Score: 1
agreed. It sounded to me like the author's argument for linux being better against viruses is kinda stupid. His main point seems to be that Linux is too complex for average users.

The other thing that bothers me is the section describing the two factors that cause e-mail viruses and worms to propogate. Social Engineering and Poor code. It almost sounds like the author is claming that there is no bad code or soc-eng going on on linux and Mac. As I recall, social engineering started before Unix was around, and proceeded to thrive quite well when it hit the scene. And the bit about poor code? What the hell is he talking about? I don't think there's a program in existence that doesn't have some poor code or design in it somewhere. Those two arguments are extremely weak at best.

i can only agree with this. after FFVII I was really looking forward to the next one...but it was complete ass. There was absolutely no character development throughout the entire story. Stuff just happened to everyone and they didn't change their views or attitudes at all. And also like you said, magic draw, while innovative, isn't so great. the real killer was the whole junction implementation. You spend 2 hours drawing 100 fire, 100 blizzard and 100 bolt just so you can't use them. Then you get absolutely nothing from level ups, and have to spend more hours drawing more magic you'll never use....

  7. explianing how it works on Sci-Fi Movies and 'Bad Science' · · Score: 1
"Explaining how it works can detract from a film"

This line was below a still from the Matrix Reloaded. Is the author implying that the Matix would have been better had they not told us about the Matix? I don't think that film would have worked without the explanation of what the matrix is. I think that explaining how the so called "dodgy physics" work does a lot for suspension of belief in a film. I mean, when I first saw Charlie's Angels and saw those gals defying gravity in what I thought was a normal universe, I kinda wondered "What the hell are they doing? Since when can they fly?". An explanation as to their anti-gravity abilities would have been nice.

  10. another factor in music loudness on Is Louder Better? · · Score: 2, Insightful
that I have noticed is the over-use of compression. Every record being made these days has tons of compression on it...which is most often used to get the volume increases heard on records, but there's method to their madness. A compressed signal may have less dynamic range, but it gains a certain warmth, and "pop" (not the genre or the beverage). I've used it myself in recordings. If you apply a high ratio compressor (in essence, a limiter) to a signal, it makes the music almost explode out of the speakers at lower volumes...I think the idea was to allow for lower volume listening of music that sounds like it's at a high volume.

Unfortunately, it seems that producers and engineers have entered into a volume war...every record made must be louder than the last so that it stands out.
