Am I supposed to be impressed or something? Android powered battle bots are hardly new, no impressive. Its not impressive (to me) when you run your software on say a 40mhz clocked processor... and you have 39.5 milllion cycles each second spent idling. This is no different than a 'PC powered battle bot', its ridiculous over kill and requires very little effort, everything is already premade for you.
People regularly run their bots on AVR and PIC microcontrollers (AVRs are used in arduino), thats impressive. Using a super computer to do your childs 2nd grade homework is not.

First of all, we're talking about a serious budget position. The licensing fee for a corporation wide system upgrade isn't something your average IT department can rubber stamp.
Sounds like a fairly shitty IT department/management. When you roll out a large project thats going to cost a fortune 5 years down the road to upgrade, you don't wait 5 years and ask for 500k. You roll it out, including an additional 100k in yearly operating costs/maintenance, and then have 500k sitting in your pool ready to purchase the upgrade at the 5 year mark. This is basic business planning. If you didn't think of that, you aren't qualified to do any planning for a project that costs that much, and thats the first problem in your post.
If you weren't doing it wrong from the start, you wouldn't be waiting on the CEO to make a decision and the rest of your post becomes a non-starter.
Both of these were done when I worked at Silicon Graphics in the early 90's, on machines several orders of magnitude larger than the nexus 7.
Physically or technically? Physically I'll believe. Technically, I find it hard to believe anything from the 90s is faster than a high end ARM device now.
The microphone and noise cancelation (or lack there of) on phones previous to the 4s make using Siri on them a really shitty experience, its really not something you want to do as you'll just be frustrated as hell as it gets everything wrong/
The iPad 2 has NO noise cancelation, it would fucking suck for siri unless you're in a completely isolated room.

I recently started checking out the iBooks text books on the iPad, these things (for first generation creations) are freaking CRAZY impressive. They are what you would expect an electronic text book to be. There is still room for growth and making them better as we learn more certainly, but I personally could have learned well with them without a teacher I think.
I'm sure its not exclusive to iBooks, but thats all I've looked into, but it is damn impressive for a first generation collection, I'm actually excited to see what the future brings.

You can run it underwater with a floating dongle/antenna at the service. Practically impossible to see on the ocean open in ANY form, electronic or otherwise unless you happen to get hit by the dongle when it passes you by.

Just using it to get across territorial waters without getting put in jail doesn't require weather updates, you only launch when you can see clear skys, its only got a few hundred miles to travel AT MOST, you can predict weather long enough for that and an occasional loss of shipment isn't really a big deal considering thats already a risk importing now. This particular risk is directly under the distributors control, unlike the coast gaurd and border patrol, ICE.
