  2. 5 Problems with Open Source Really Boils Down to 1 on Five Fundamental Problems with Open Source? · · Score: 0

All the isssues discussed here betray one underlying theme.... The ideals that are the foundation for Open Source and the products generated from this amazingly diverse genisis are slowly but, surely being commercialized...as a result the "market" for these products is miopically drifting into the mainstream....away from their foundation point...the mainstream has different needs and expectations than the Open Source community itself....these "needs and expectations" are in conflict.... It comes down to this...If the products being created within the Open Source community are to have any hope of dominating the computing enviroments of tomorrow....idealism must be abandoned....and they must become more commercially sensitive....If this migration does not take place....Open Source will continue to thrive within its own technological culture....but, it will eventually zenith....and retreat....and the world will be left to the Microsoft's, etc....but, the ideals will be maintained.... Personally, what I am reminded of is the children of the sixties....lots of ideals.....an explosion of self expression.....and then they all grew up to be white collar yuppies.....(God I hate yuppies) I think it will be very interesting to see if the Open Source community "grows up" Computer technology might be better off.....but, I also think that something magnificent will be lost to history.....once again

Roflmao....we havent had privacy for almost a generation maybe two..... We have had an illusion of privacy....the only thing this technology is doing is destroying the illusion.... Stop worrying the war was lost before we new it was being fought........ The only thing that stops any oligarical entity from knowing anything and everything about you is a lack of profit motivation or interest.... Your only defense is to be as boring as possible... Of course thats no fun....so to hell with them... My answer is that randomly once a day you should drop your pants and moon the world..... Let them add that to their database of activities... It would give a whole new meaining to the term: Moonies......

  4. Re:Anti-spam zealotry is a good thing on AOL Sued For Over-Zealous Blocking · · Score: 1

The Bottom Line is this...all participants in the internet infrastructure...have to take increased responsiblity for clamping down on the abuses visited on all of us..whether the source of an email blast is some moronic user with a virus or a demonic marketing firm....resource providers must take every step they can....In the case of a small provider who has an "idiot user" with a blaster worm...the provider must take responsibility and temporarily block that user... Demonic Marketers...will just have to find a different way to annoy us than spam....personally, I hope AOL and Microsofts anti-spam initiatives shines some light on these foul denizens of the dark...and that once identified....some of the more agressive members of the internet community promptly DOS attack them into oblivion... AOL is not angelic...but, the strategy and its legal, financial, and legal motivations are fairly easy to recognize...and in my mind long over due....Whether we like it or not....the open and free exchange of information and technology we all desire will not be realized with out some assistance from corporate behemoths like AOL and Microsoft.... Even Darth Vader did something from time to time to help the alliance.....lol.....But, that doesnt mean you trust Darth Vader....
