  1. Its a toss-up on Tesla Fires Female Engineer Who Alleged Sexual Harassment (theguardian.com) · · Score: 2

I don't know which I find most likely:

    1) That a Californian feminist would get self-righteously offended at anything/everything and conveniently mislabel it all as sexual harassment.

    2) That Elon Musk is screwing his own workers as hard as he can.

I mean there are already plenty of real-world examples of both.

  2. Its a LOT cheaper if you use unwilling donors.

  3. BA totally sucks ass.

I recently spent 3 hours trying to get what I needed from the insanity that is their website booking system, and finally gave up in frustration, so I phoned them, was kept on long hold multiple times and repeatedly asked for the same info, then was told it would cost extra just because I was trying to book over the phone.

They have so many stupid apparently arbitrary and entirely arcane rules about seat pricing and availability depending on which currency you pay in (hint: much less available seats and far more expensive if you try and pay in UK pounds), They don;t even accepting their own travellers points (avios) in many circumstances. Their internet pricing keeps going up every time you quit and start-over, which you will need to multiple times just to work out the arcane tricks to get what you want from their system. I can't believe BA are even still in business.

Judging from their awful customer relations and hideously unfriendly/buggy website I'd be surprised if it wasn't all running off a single laptop on some offshoring company's desk in Mumbai.

  4. It seems clear to me that if you give everyone the same amount of free money, the economy will simply adjust by making everything more expensive, until the net benefit gained by the people from the free money becomes zero.

I can't even get my head around what "weight" actually means in the context of a black hole, but assuming it even has weight, it seems to me that 49 suns must be a massive underestimate for a supermassive black hole given that both black holes that formed it have already been vaccuming up stars, suns and everything else for millions if not billions of years.

  6. Well that's clearly not how its working here. The judge isn;t enforcing limits on the cops, he's using the system to apply duress to the defendant, which by everything I've read is illegal under US law.

The fact is that in the US, the judges clearly believe themselves to be above the law because they sometimes act without regard to the law, and even in direct contradiction to it. The real problem is that no one holds them accountable.

  7. But it amounts to the same invasion of privacy, which is the same thing no matter who it comes from.

yes, but honestly most programming jobs (at least that I've had in my 35 years as a Software Engineer) only require very basic maths. Even those jobs including signal processing.

That said, Signal Processing is a quite small field of all software development, and even then, its most usually done on DSPs that also come with libraries containing everything you need such as FFTs etc, so you rarely if ever actually code them yourself any more.
