You can write pretty good amusing toons in VBA using the Microsoft Office assistants like ones that pretend to reformat clueless users' c: drives or ones that present rude messages during presentations using Powerpoint.
Anyway my Office Assistant is the Keiru the dolphin rather than that f***ing Paperclip. All the ladies at work think he's cute but unfortunately this doesn't extend to me.
But surely the European Court of Human Rights would rule against this as an invasion of privacy.
Also is the European convention on Human Rights now incorporated into UK law.
Still it's typical of the current govt which has marked authoritarian and nanny statist tendencies...

If you are using an old 16 bit version of Access such as 2, its a pile of cack for more than 1 or 2 users.
Unfortunately this is the version a lot of people have experienced running under Windoze 3.1.
Access 97 which we have been continous using for over 14 months has been reliable (no down time or major crashes). It certainly been more reliable than our MS SQL server 6.5 on NT4.0.
For a system that has 100 records inputted daily and is used by 20 users with proper record locking and a good table structure , the jet 3.5 database has been working reliably if a bit slowly.
The problem with Access is that to use it properly you have to know VBA and SQL and then you might as well learn Visual Whatever and SQL Server, Sybase etc and earn more bucks.
What tends to happen is that end users thinks it like a super duper excel spreadsheet and create crap databases as a result.

I develop in Access 97 for a bank and for up to 20 users, it's pretty good for low intensive applications. For rapid application development it's much better than the alternatives. Try linking dbfs, excel worksheets, oracle tables in Oracle or SQL Server
I have left Access databases running overnight and they have not crashed or screwed up in anyway. Of course we use Novell on the server side rather than NT.
With the availability of encryption and the growing number of alternative providers, I think this will fail...
But its very scary when all these type of people meet up. I am sure that not only net censorship is being discussed. Backs are scratched etc etc...
Before I heard about this, I was fairly neutral in the debate between Linux v M$ but this finally confirms the ?. world view. M$ is out to get us all.

Professional journalist work mainly for big corporation such as News Corp, Time-Warner etc or state run orgs such as the BBC.
They therefore tend to not to run stories which go against the status quo too much.
In Britain we have a media dominated by Murdoch which engage in spinning favourable stories about its media operations such as Sky, supporting political parties which let Murdoch do anything he basically wants and setting the political agenda in Murdoch's terms.
Objective journalists... Try reading the Sun newspaper.
Murdoch is basically equivalent Bill Gates in British media terms..
Let's face there's not a lot on the internet that anyone will pay good money for.
Who clicks on banners?
E-Commerce: Where's the advance on a good catalog/mail ordering service apart from industries such as books and music where there is such a huge range. When I buy a car, I want a test drive..
I think the internet needs a 'killer' app but if knew what it was, I wouldn't be sitting here sending this E-mail.`
I agree at the moment it's impossible but with the advances in computing power and some good algorithms who knows...
Anyway I think they would use ISPs to warn them or track specific people over the net (remove them cookies, don't give out your e-mail, use encryption).
He's just another CEO who's a bit whackier than Bill Gates and is not so money obsessed. He's made quite few mistakes like the LISA and hiring Sculley from Pepsi.
Apple's not the start up from 1977 or even 1983. I would put it on a par in corpoate wholesomeness as IBM or Oracle (not quite as bad as Microsoft).
I would say he's about 0.7 Bill Gates on the scale of assholeness.
The thing is that most programmers are not writing the operating system, they're implementing a program that run on that operating system according to needs of the user.
No one is going top write an accounting system or the equivalent of SAP for nothing apart from Kudos.
The thing that takes the time is not the coding but interpreting the needs of the user to fit in with language or operating system.
Hey I program Microsoft products but i wouldn't give f*ck if I wrote using Linux tools. Operating systems and languages are just a tool to produce programs rather than writing in Assembler (tedious).
Loads of people are not using the internet as much as white americans: Japanese, Europeans, Mexicans. Maybe its because most of the content is aimed at white americans at the moment.
It's not a racist thing, it's a cultural thing. Perhaps minority americans have better things to do than surf the web.
British Press tells the truth so long as it doesn't harm the propreitor's interest or seriously hurt the powers that be.
For eample: Not suprisingly in Murdoch owned newpapers here, absolutley no coverage of his marriage to his new asian wife.
The BBC governors who run the show are appointed by the Government so are hardly likely to endorse anything radical. The BBC World Service is paid for by Britain's Foreign Ministry. British propaganda is so good as it is very subtle.
Yeah well at least Britain gets some benefit for being a US puppet like shared intelligence and nukes (Trident). But I think the Germans and French are not very happy about this. Anglo-Saxons ganging up as per usual...Hence UK viewed as not 'European'.
So what? T The NSA (US National Security Agency) and British intelligence have a big listening post in Yorkshire where they capture virtually all the electonic communication in Europe using computers to scan for key words.
Not only do they look for security and intelligence information but they also use it for commercial espionage. This has mentioned in the Uk press and on Channel 4 News.

Judging by my experience in working in IT in the UK, I would say its pretty much equal opportunities in terms of race.
Probably it's more of class thing here, with poor working class kids of all races being underepresented.
What about women though, why aren't feminists not being worked up by the lack of female participation in the curent information technology revolution?
