Google is in a no man's land, of sorts. It has penetrated enough to be considered almost quasi-public, yet it does not have the security that such a status would offer, and must constantly watch its back.
The company should know by now that users are not happy with the level of transparency. Yet, we see Orkut christened with very little explanation. End-users won't support a company that is overly secretive if there are alternatives.
