  1. Re:hark on Japanese Anime Industry In Danger Of Fragmentation · · Score: 1

no i'm not. Businessmen focus on production. Production can be standardized. Production can be performed by just about anyone. Creative vision isn't something that can be massproduced. You're right, vision will always be marketable. However, businesses are in business to make money; they're not in business to deliver on artistic vision. Therefore, they outsource or skimp on quality.

  2. hark on Japanese Anime Industry In Danger Of Fragmentation · · Score: 3, Insightful

When business wins over talent, the business fails and the talent eventually pops up again. Just remember what happened with Atari and its developer relations. Games were mass produced, programmers paid poorly, and cheap products were rushed to launch. This isn't so much of a danger to the anime industry as the landfills. Fortunately, anime merchandise is easier to dump than 4 million ET carts.

  5. beta software... on Windows Media Player 10 Beta Released · · Score: 2, Funny

It seems that everything released nowadays is beta. "Beta" is the new trend just like using years for version numbers was the trend in the 90's. Just wait for this: Windows Media Player X - Beta 2004 Then it will be complete.

Laptops get faster but laptop users don't get any smarter. Every day I see people with a brand new processor and 128MB of memory on windows XP. They insist that their laptop is slow but refuse to spend the extra 50 bucks to get a decent amount of ram in the machine. oh well.

  7. Trusted computing... on DNSSEC: Good Enough? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Trusted computing means seperating hosts into two piles: trust and non-trusted. What rules apply to gaining "trust"? Is gaining "trust" a monetary decision? How does the little guy make sure that his content is seen without paying for a costly, restrictive license? Would he have to constantly censor what content he has with his host in order to maintain a "trust" certificate? Seems more like censorship than protection to me :\ This is only my opinion, of course.
