The problem I see with this is that my favourite Firefox plugin is Tabbrowser Extensions, which I don't think I would be able to use Firefox without. Anyone who knows this plugin knows that not only is it not available from the Firefox plugin page, but in early versions the Firefox team was _actively_ disuading people from using it. It is sometimes a good idea to allow Joe-Blow the ability to publish plugins, updates, whatever.
Are you jealous because you didn't think of it first? Or is it just because you couldn't do it yourself?
I believe the author did it for exactly the same reason why people mountain climb, do skate tricks, and read paperbacks -- because you can.
I can account for the other side of Canada. In Vancouver the University of British Columbia just finished re-working all of their first and second year courses to be run with Java instead of C++ and Scheme. (yeah Scheme!)

Star Trek: The Next Generation "A Final Unity" kicked ass. Old school point and click adventure game with the original actors voices. Damn good game.
