And what's the deal with the reference to the Mars lander? It's not like they were using a conversion that was slightly off; they were using the wrong units. Anyone care to count how many Slashdot stories featured references to that error?
Making a conversion error is at least human (with points for extra effort). Making the error of working in science and engineering without using SI- and ISO-only units is mindnumbingly stupid and should be punishable by having to wear a paper cone on your head, with "Doh!" printed on it for the rest of your life.
It is sorta valid to reference those stories (although one reference shouldäve been enough) about the Mars Surveyor since that error would not have happened if the US had already "fully" converted to use the metric system
This doesn't make any sense. No conversion is taking place now, because the measurements originate in miles. What is the cost savings?
That's just not true. Since almost all countries except the US have adopted the mectric system that means that if you want to export your products you have to manufacture them to meet those standards that are based upon the gram and the meter. Quite often that means having two similar, but not identical product lines. That is more expensive than having one. If you only manufacture for the home market, then fine, you have no extra costs but every export company have that (and those companies are not few). You might argue that the costs involved are small for each company, which might be true, but accumulated the costs are quite large.
Don't care about export companies? Well your tradebalance oughtta make you think otherwise.
Benchmarks, smenchmarks. They reveal only so much as realworld tests is the only way to go. If you are serious, set up both systems, optimize them and beat the hell out of both with the server-daemon you intend to run (for db's, use Postgresql (optimized of course) instead of MySQL, if you intend to use a db under heavy load. Low-med loads anything will do).
If you don't know how? Don't bother with benchmarks either. Instead, go for a Linux-system that requires little skill to set up, use and patch.
For serious servers you test all options under proper conditions. Would you buy a car based upon other peoples tests without even driving it a bit yourself? After your tests you know which system is better for your setup. THAT is what counts, not benchmarks.

Actually, it was a mistake caused by being tired. I misread the parent and thought he was supporting the claim that only 5.x had SMP, since the linked page was on the topic of SMPng. The only good deed I did (with my mistake and all) was posting the quote from the page showing that even 3.x had SMP since not to many bother viewing links.
Perhaps you should do your research a bit more thoroughly next time. The link you are referring to is about FreeBSD SMPng (ng = next generation, implying a previous generation). SMPng is a core tech of FreeBSD 5.x but SMP has been a feature for 4.x a long time.
From the page you linked:
FreeBSD supports Symmetric MultiProcessor kernels in the following releases:
The Mozilla devs did the right thing and asked about having Qute freely licenced 6 months ago.
From my reading of Ben's post in response he wrote that Arvid "INDICATED" (according to Ben) that he was not ok about having others create derivative works using stuff from the Qute theme.
Now, to me, an important product as Mozilla require a "final answer" from Arvid on such an issue i.e. "The license on Qute have to be changed or we need to replace Qute with another theme. Will you change the license?". A final "no" then, would entitle the Moz devs to change default theme. It seems unfair both to Arvid and the creators of the new theme to not having cleared this issue before.

You know someone will set it up some day. Just because it's there, and everyone shall know he is the Geek (capital G and we know it will be a man as women have lifes).
It is legal if the purpose is to provide open access to all. If that is not the purpose then it is not.
Then again it is kind of like speeding. It works 'til you get caught. And you sorta have to be a dimwit to get caught.

But auditing is not an "end to all problems" or a sustitute for good defaults. To me good defaults make or break an OS (just look at Windows). NetBSD have more secure defaults IMHO
The kernel Windows NT/2K/XP runs on is in no way shape or form related to mach. It came from work IBM and Microsoft started in the early Eighties to replace DOS. It eventually became OS/2 and Windows NT and the rest is history.
Well, if I remember correctly then the work IBM and MS did together was based upon Mach so OS/2 is based upon Mach.
However, that work did not carry into the NT-kernel as MS modelled the kernel "after" VMS when they broke the collaboration with IBM on OS/2.
Windows XP does not run on Mach or any variants thereof

It doesn't have everything. It's a 3G phone but lacks Videocalls (due to placement of camera/lack of 2nd camera). The MP3 abilities also seems like crap (28MB come on, I thought 128MB was minimum today). I can't believe people still buys Nokia phones considering this mindnumbingly stupid attemt. I've owned 2 Nokias before (had big troubles with the batteries on both) switched to SE and never ever going back.
Um, did you know that -march=athlon-xp implies that gcc should include MMX, 3DNow and SSE optimisations by default and thereby rendering the switches -mmmx -msse -m3dnow redundant?
This goes for all -march switches so by using -march=p3 you get -mmmx -msse for free.

... but honestly, that's a lotta pr0n!

Well since you get the "Aphex Twin Mix" through the software you could call it an enhancement :)
Sure, the new 7600 from Nokia has everything.

On my Athlon XP 2800 I have this:
CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx -msse -m3dnow"
Um, did you know that -march=athlon-xp implies that gcc should include MMX, 3DNow and SSE optimisations by default and thereby rendering the switches -mmmx -msse -m3dnow redundant?

Oh dear, well now you know!
