You're right. There isn't a problem with it. Why do *we* need to worry about it as long as we're not breaking the laws right?
Well, see, ever heard of a slippery slope? I'm not one to scream "Doom Doom Doom!", but Rome was not built in a day, nor did it fall in a day.
"US Patriot Act?. Ok, fair enough! We'll get those terrorists! We know where you are terrorists! Yarr!...Wh--what? You want to spy on drug trafficers and petty (in comparison [by opinion] to the terrorists)? Well... ok, I guess. I mean, they're bad people anyway. I'm not trafficing drugs, so I'm alrig-- Huh? You don't like the things you're seeing? Wait, so if the police think if I'm doing *anything* wrong they can just come in and take me? What if I'm innocent? It doesn't matter if I'm innoncent?! You're protecting freedom? What the hell?! But I didn't do anyth-- WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY?! HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE I AM?! SPYING ON ME?! I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, I HAVE THE FIRST ADMENDMENT, THE RIGHT TO SPEAK!...I thought. Hey, who are you? Why are you in here? Where are you taking me? Nuuu!"
In Soviet Russia, the government controls you!
I thought it was different in America. Not at this rate.
Either way, I don't think it matters. I see this has hopefully a jump start to the government to start funding NASA again. If China shows to be real compitition, I don't think the government in America would let them have it (space, that is) Both fear of communism, losing economic power, and a possible arms race.
I view space exploration and study a very important thing. It won't pay off in the near future, hell, even just the future. But I see it as a *long* term investment. At some point we're going to need alternatives to living on this rock. Obviously, the only way to go is up. So with any luck, this will encourage more funding to NASA. Even if it doesn't, maybe China can provide something beneficial to the world community.
I'm not normally one to be anti-Microsoft, but man... That's an example of doublethink if I ever saw one...
