That's not totally true, capacitors actually act as current sources, with the current being proportional to the change in voltage across the cap. It's inductors that are voltage sources.

One major benefit of this system is perfect synchronization. If you set up all your Dells, then played the same music on them simultaneously, they would be slightly out of sync and sound horrible. The Sonos system will let you play the same music in different 'zones' all in perfect sync. Plus the interface is great, and you can't really beat the wifi remote.

But what happens when you want to copy a CD that is behind a digital lock (AKA copy protection)? This is circumventing our right to copy CDs. If all CDs had copy protection then our right to rip CDs wouldn't matter as we couldn't legally do it.

  5. Re:Folders good for backups on The Death of Folders? · · Score: 1

The directory structure can be thought of as meta data. By going to this paradigm, you are not really ridding yourself of it. Imagine you are saving a picture through a save dialog. You could have a heirarchal list of labels. You could go through and add different labels to the file, much in the same way as saving a file to a directory.

When browsing files, you could browse by the heirarchal list of labels (they would only show files that have ONLY that label, and not any sub labels).

If you only added 1 label to a file, then you have something that is exactly the same as saving it to a directory. You could also add annother label and have something more useful then a traditional file structure.

There are other methods that will allow you to run unsigned code a lot easier then the 007 exploit.

The first one is called the audio hack. whenever you start up your xbox, you need to go through a special procedure to take advantage of a bug in the audio track handling. This is not nearly as hard as it sounds, and takes about 15 seconds to get going.

The second is called the font exploit. This takes advantage of a bug in the font handling of the xbox. By changing a few font files, whenever you load up your xbox, it will run linux right off the bat. Unfortunately, there are problems with this if you decide to unplug your xbox and move it.

It is possible to add more ram to the motherboard. It _IS_ a pc motherboard, and it has an extra surface mount point where you can solder another ram chip on (read: quite difficult soldering), this can get you to 128mb of ram.

On the topic of modchips, if you have even basic soldering experience, go for a modchip that requires soldering. They are surprisingly simple, and although they require '10 wires' to solder, 9 of them are located on a pin header which is a joke to solder. One of the points on the back (the d0 point) is a bit harder, but it it still nothing to be afraid of. Solderless modchips can be more of a problem. There can easily be problems aligning tem properly, and you will most likely spend more time aliging, then soldering another modchip.

In Canada, it definately isnt about less monopolies. Here in BC, we have two choices: Shaw for cable, Telus for DSL. There may be some smaller companies, but they are to small to matter. Even with the monopolies, the prices have been driven to around $35 Canadian, which is significantly lower than US prices.
