Poppycock. Without a blacklist I'd be getting several hundred a day. Obviously you have a vested interest in allowing spam to get through. Or you're just a conspiracy minded person.
I agree. I have used project management software, and even Excel, to show my plans and to define my workload. Years ago I was called to task by a corporate guy who came in to ream me for being several months late on a project. I pulled out my pert chats and showed him I was, in fact, on schedule. I was informed that my boss gave him different dates. My boss was fired 2 months later.
1. When I got the account they weren't listed on any blacklists so checking ahead didn't help. Nor were they, as far as I could tell, hosting spammers.
2. Apparently a few people know (knew?) how to get off the list. I didn't and when I tried I did not find a way to get off it short of changing IP blocks. As I grow older, I learn, but this was something I had not figured out how to do.
3. I'll consider my use of "as we all know" but considering the postings by many, my English isn't all that bad. At least I leave out the childish vulgarities so many use.
4. I have seen spam capitalized many places. I don't feel a 'need' to use capitals - I did it by habit. For this venue I stand corrected.
By all means excuse my ignorance. I've 'visited'/. for about a year and enjoy it. But I'm not an IT professional. I'm just a guy who keeps his own business web site online. I'll keep in mind your admonishments.
Some years back I learned that the best thing to do with a Compaq is to completely wipe the hard drive and not use restore disks.
Install the OS from scratch and only the programs you want. I spent some time at Compaqsucks.com before I was convinced to follow this route after I bought a peecee cheap from a friend.
Now that I have a 'clean machine', it's faster and none of that bull. I use it as a server and it runs without problems with the only reboots being for software updates.
I'm too stupid yet to change to Linux, but I'm sure that's in my future.
I do all my work on my Macs and the peecee server isn't a big deal if it does get hosed - it's my local 'play' server with nothing important on it and I have it backed up anyway.
Being a Mac person, the last virus I saw was about 1990 - it was called WDEF as I remember. It did no damage and was a one step issue to get rid of it.
Not always so. One of my sites was 'Black Listed' by SPEWS last year. I was, in that case, renting from a Verio reseller. How as I to know that the ISP was also hosting spammers (they claimed they weren't, so who knows)?
I had to go through the 'big change' to another IP block because - as we all know - getting off the SPEWS listing was impossible.
I'm not against blacklists. I like what they do for me. They stop a lot of SPAM.
To me it's not just hitting the 'D' key a few times a day. I've had an internet presence since 1995 and have several domains. My server rejects over 200 messages a day alone. Mail which gets through goes to Spamcop for a check and then I pop my spamcop account. Some even get through that.
And I have to check my Spamcop account daily. This morning I had to go through 17 pages of Held e-mails over the last 24 hours - all of which were bogus (I rarely see a false positive).
As a business person who needs to receive e-mail, I can't use a whitelist and the challange idea isn't for me either.
You are in the minority if spam is not a significant problem to you.
I can't beat it, but I also have floppies from the mid- to late 1980's which read fine. My oldest CD-r's are June 1995. Verbatum disks. I pull disks out from time to time when I need an old customer file and my CD-s so far have not been an issue. I pulled 2 from June 1995 and copied the contents of each to my hard drive without a problem. Every file copied and the few I tried opened just fine.
I do keep my floppies and CDs boxed in a closet.
My phones have a "Ringer Off' switch. Calling me your will typically get my answering machine. I have the ringer off on every phone in the house. I return calls a couple of times a day.
It's your choice not to receive calls directly or even to hear your phone. Just as you don't HAVE to check your e-mail.
There must be something seriously wrong with your setup if mousing over an animated menu takes up 50% of your processor. Or maybe you've left out some details.
You bet. I finally bought a New mac last fall after using my old 8500 for almost 7 years. Now the 8500 is essentially one of my 2 media servers - so it's still in use.
PCs are designed to be easy and cheap to upgrade. Macs are designed for people who can't tell a CPU socket from ZCR slot.
A post from a "you're not a MAN if it's not difficult" person.
Mac's are designed to be used by folks who don't CARE what the difference between a a CPU socket from ZCR slot is, not just hardware junkies. For those of us who do know the difference, things are just that much easier.
The fact that you use the pronoun "she" really eliminates all the value of anything your friend has to say about computers. On the other hand, it does prove the well-known fact that Macs are for girls.
And you are from WHAT planet?
I'm pretty sure Mac CPU upgrades include more than just the CPU.
I'm 'pretty sure' that's incorrect having upgraded a number of Macs over the years, including 2 of the 3 I have now. Unplug the old CPU, plug in the new one. All of 5 minutes total.
I guess I'm 'pretty sure' that PC CPU upgrades include more than just the CPU for the same reason you 'think' that about Macs.

So - your suggestion is that we rid the world of idiots who buy the stuff? How would one go about doing that?
