I think bonuses are nice. But if you are _just_ becomming profitable, I think it would be better to make sure you'll stick around till next year.
Just me, but keeping my job is a better bonus then a few hundred bucks.
Also people start to expect them (National Lampoons Christmas Vacation) and that can cause no end of trouble. In any case keep it small, and give them a larger raise when that time comes around. $20/week more then they were expecting.
So through the course of someones job, they get some private information, then broadcast it to the world.
Well maybe this was a bad idea. Generally when you come across non dangerous information detrimental to your employer you shouldn't announce it, that's just unethical.
This obviously doesn't apply to matters of public safety, which is why we have/are working on whistleblower protection. No matter how much you like them, buying Macs is NOT an issue of public safety.
Money comes from donations, money will advertise, hopefully buying votes.
Either buy the vote with action, or buy it with the advertising money. Without money, nobody will even know what they stand for. They need both, you just have to play the game.
If I make something, I own it. I don't have to publish it to own it. If someone steals my work, and publishes it, I still own it.
Public doesn't mean available to anyone anywhere, it just means "released"
In the financial world we have publicly owned companies. But this does not prevent the "Public" owners are a select group, who may or may not sell to the public at large.
Yes, I keep making this mistake. By reflex I just hit the other, it was really funny when I hit the reboot button on gdm, said "oh no" and proceeded to hit "OK" instead of cancel.
Yes NORAD is very intertwined. Which is why the missle defence debate is raging in Canada.
The fear is that if we don't go along, it will break NORAD, and we won't have the same level of integration with respect to North American Airspace.
The other is that we'd be supporting something that could lead to a new arms race. Which is something we'd like to avoid. Particularly since missle interceptors and such don't work all that well, and would not protect against weapons using serious countermeasures.
What I think will happen is that Canada will support missle defence, Bush will get thrown out in the next election. Someone with a clue will realize that it is just too expensive to build this missle defence system, that likely won't work anyway.
Canada has many exceptions to US restrictions. This makes sense. It is cheaper to work together, and we do in many military and space applications. Our interests are basically very similar, and both countries are generally trustworthy of each other.
The only conflict are on specific policy issues. It also matters which government is in power in each country.
There have been quite a few times where state and provincial officials have banded together to fight both federal governments.
Companies and other schools will start to track with RF tags. Then stores and other locations will start to keep tracking information (it is a number, they don't care who you are). They will probaly share this, since you are broadcasting, there is no privacy issue.
Formatting a users hard drive without asking isn't detroying their computer, it's just informing them they are vulnerable, and really should update their system configuration.
Sorry, it is MY computer, it is MY responsibility. Others shouldn't go around taking care of it for me without my permission. At least by demonstrating they are willing and able to control users computers. And acknowledge that they have a responsiblity to control thier users computers they have opened themselves to liability for any worms or DDOS attacks from within their network.
"Oh I thought AOL made sure my computer is behaving properly like they did last time"
(BTW this post is half sarcasm, half my thoughts )
Will the company change if it goes public? If it isn't the google of today and becomes a crappy add loaded POS, it isn't the google cash machine I think it should be.
Assuming google is profitable now, just keep providing a class leading product, improve it so that there is no effective competition. Should be capable of consistent profitability for the long term.
The issue isn't overseas, it is that someone is illegally distributing protected information to organizations who aren't taking the proper steps to protect it.
To get in the US you do not need to give a credit card number. Basically you need a passport and a reason. If you aren't a citizen of a few limited countries, you need to ask first, and give a detailed reason, and they will give you a visa.
Heh, interesting Peter Jennings was born, educated, and started his career in Canada.
In North America there are many many local accents, plus the foreign ones. I kinda group them as Eastern, Southern, and the rest (including mine). The foreign accents are always fun, about 20+ from native European english speakers (does every town really need its own accent?). Asia, South America, lottsa fun.
What is the problem, whoever sent this information to an uncontrolled location is in trouble. By releasing it to someone who may violate the disclosure policy they have apparently not fufilled their requirements. Just trace it back, who gave it to this person, they should not have done that without proper assurances, and they are responsible.
You MUST not release information except to trusted parties.!!
Yeah, it is so cheap having those MS Windows worms running around. I can't see how it would only cost 5 times as much to get millions of users to patch their system, account for their lost time, and write the patch.

Anyone moving probaly wants radio.
Broadcast is reasonably efficient, particularly when you get many listeners.
I like my car radio. Although in many areas the radio stations REALLY suck.
Many people actually enjoy doing something productive with their life.
Fine the GPL is invalid, SCO has knowinlgy committed copyright violations, wouldn't this intent result in higher penalties or damages.
Everyone else thought they had a valid licence to distribute linux.
Doesn't matter.
If the FSF decides to selectively enforce the GPL and in some way that manages to release their copyright (stay with me).
How exactly does this action relate to IBM?
Even if the FSF was selectively enforcing trademarks, how does that relate to IBMs rights?
Yes, I keep making this mistake.

I worked at an OEM muffler plant.
None of Honda Odessy, Honda Civic (as of around 1999/2000) or GM Pickups had glass lined mufflers.
Some have a fiber mat outside the muffler, but not on the inside with the air.
Perhaps you need to go look into this further before you claim I'm uninformed.
FWIW I'm Canadian.

Plus if it works well, why shouldn't they use it?
Large airflow restriction this will cut your flow rate substantially.
And for the poster who said mufflers are glass fiber lined, they typically aren't, it's just an empty chamber.
Wait till someone writes a virus.
Actual hardware damage will be fun.
Does using Linux void warranties now?
ABS when working properly gets rid of skid marks.
This leaves much less evidence on how fast you were going.
Additionally it might be interesting to see that someone hit the gas when they "accidentally" ran someone over.
Anyone can track these kids anywhere with a radio receiver. This dosn't have to stay in the schools
When your workplace switches to RF ID cards you can be tracked too.
This is broadcast information, why can't I share this. Stores and groups could track people silently anywhere.
Add a Credit card transaction, and you can put a name to the person wandering through all these places.
Good for them, but not for me.
Companies and other schools will start to track with RF tags.

It isn't you yet, but it will come.

Of course not.
I haven't seen any financials.

You can rent or lease a physical item.
This is a time limited possession with limited rights.
What is the big difference?
