Windows has the Windows Scripting Host installed by default (has since 98), which is a programming language enabling users to pull in COM objects from all their favourite applications, and let them exchange data. It also allows pretty complicated scripting of file manipulation, etc. It supports databases, sockets, and anything else you can think of.
BTW, your page isn't listed highly in Google because not many people link to it. The more popular your site, the more reason Google has to display it to people (as obviously, the more popular it is, the more people want to see it). It's not a big conspiracy:)
You're banging on about how bad windows is compared to a c64, yet you fail to mention linux. Not very objective, are you?:-P
I'm not having a go or being rude, but let's not blatantly lie here. Linux is a lot more than just "cryptic"... Saying it's unsuitable for a home user's system is ridiculous. 96% of the desktop machines are windows. If it was so horrible and linux so good, people would have switched to linux a LONG time ago.
Don't try and pin this on microsoft. Microsoft aren't the only people who can innovate in Windows. Blaming them for not innovating, when clearly they don't have to (96% desktop market share - they're obviously doing something right) is ridiculous.
I understand it's the done thing on/. to have a pop at microsoft, I just wish we could do it in a way that made sense and didn't make us look like jealous brats.
One serious question - how has linux innovated recently?
It was, as using just a couple of sentences I logically debunked your argument. I mean, it doesn't take a genius to realise if you give something to someone, you take it away from someone else.:) Glad you agree!
Why doesn't the FCC impose a "watershed" on swearing/boobage on TV, like in the UK? After 9pm on normal TV (or 8pm on encrypted digital channels), anything goes. Kids shouldn't be up at that time, and adults can guess whether a programme will offend them or not. If you have your kids up watching TV at that time, you probably have more to worry about than them hearing the word "shit" or seeing a boob.;)
I was protesting against Bush in LA, and some "free republicans" said I was being anti-American. They then used their American flags to cover my "Stop bush" sign:) the irony:) Free speech? Only if you agree with those who call the shots.
Well, Bush made it a crime to speak out about the US for a while. The term "Unamerican" was strewn about the media, slung at anyone criticizing the Commander in Chimp, effectively blackmailing anyone against speaking out. Sure - there's nothing on the books about it, but the pres knows he has one trump up his sleeve - the American ideology. People in the US are raised to respect America, and anything American. The first part is cool, the second part is ridiculously flawed. The President does something shitty, stands up in front of the stars'n'stripes and says "I'm American!". Then on, it's open season on anyone having a pop at him, as they're being "unamerican" or "pinko lefty commies" or somesuch rubbish.
Also, bear in mind the PATRIOT act has targetted many people innocently involved in non-terrorist activities for speaking their minds. It also says they can't tell anyone about it, which is a double-whammy of free-speech-out-the-window.
I'm not having a go, I just get the impression most people haven't put 2+2 together yet.
Well, you can't go on TV in the US late at night and say "fuck". That's blatantly not free speech. The US is ruled by the Christian right, and what they say goes. No boobs on TV, no swearing, just lots of car adverts, fitness machines and payday check advancing services. If you seriously think the US has free speech, then hats off to the government - they've pulled the wool over your eyes good and proper.
Every single law or license that gives rights takes them away, too. If you suddenly get the right to eat ice cream, I suddenly lose the right to stop you eating ice cream. The "x only gives rights" argument is, and always will be, bunk.
It doesn't overwrite the address in the bar, but puts a crappy-looking DIV below it, kind of like the auto-complete dropdown, but out of place and shoddy. Their "Connection secured" icon is kinda funny, though:-P
It's very common for companies dealing with different currencies to round the amounts, to make it easier on the client. After all, it's easier to transfer $8,000 than $7,846.22:)
You had guns at a lan party? What sort of whacko nutjob scared-ass freak are you?? what the hell?!? Am I the only one who finds it grossly disgusting that someone would bring deadly weapons to a lan party?? fuck! America is screwed if you have to be armed to go to the store or a party. "land of the free" my ass.
Japan, using US-talk, launched a pre-emptive strike against the US, which by US doctrine is a reasonable thing to do. You can't use that argument anymore, thanks to Bush.
The people who died in Nagasaki and Hiroshima were mainly civilians. Saying you're willing to kill millions of civilians to save you some soldiers who've already agreed to die for their country is pretty awful. I guess 'cos they were japanese, it didn't matter, right?
Firebombing doesn't poison everyone and everything in a huge radius. Once the flames are out, people can rebuild their lives. The consequences of nuclear attacks last for generations. Just because they're caused by things falling from the sky doesn't mean they're comparable.
It would have cost more lives of soldiers who'd agreed to fight & die for their country, as opposed to innocent men, women and children who had NO SAY in the whole mess. I can't believe you're defending nuclear attacks on cities full of civilians.
"I have always found it curious that people objected more to Hiroshima and Nagasaki... than to, say, Tokyo, or Berlin. Both of which were pounded repeatedly."
When the fires were out, people could live there again. If you survived the night, you'd survive until the next round. With Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it didn't end. Square miles were left uninhabitable through contamination. Food and water was contaminated, too. The people didn't have any education on the matter, so they just walked around trying to live while their bodies destroyed themselves. Most people having horrific radiation burns, and living in unbearable agony until they died in the streets, or trying to bury their dead relatives while suffering incredible radiation sickness. How can you justify nuking two cities of civillians by saying "they did that so they didn't nuke 4 more as well". It's like saying "I'm a good guy - I killed that one Nun so I didn't have to stab 8 more". Please. As bad as the conventional bombing raids on cities (Dresden included), they pale in comparison to the nuclear bombings. The fact you even compare the two speaks volumes. May I suggest you read up on what actually happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and more importantly the innocent people in them.
Because the Fender Rhodes used hammers to hit electric wires which were picked up electrically, akin to an electric guitar. That means it's not truly an electronic instrument, as it doesn't generate the musical tones electronically.

How on earth did you get to that conclusion? Microsoft is holding everyone back? Please tell me how that's possible :) I'm fascinated.

More to the point - how does being uncircumcized make you stinky??

And you can still fight without a little finger, whereas losing a thumb means you're essentially demoted to a secretary. :-P
Speak for yourself, buddy!
Another dazzling display of completely misunderstanding irony. thanks! :-P
