  1. Re:Quality of the video streaming on 2008 Beijing Olympics as a Media Test-Bed · · Score: 4, Insightful

Plus it is in WMT wrapped in SilverLight poo! No Linux, they promised Mac but did not deliver. WMT is a great streaming format for live but not when wrapped in SL poo. WMT is fine for corporate work but consumer streaming is best with Flash so all can view. NBC is just a big lumbering media company who no longer "gets it".

  2. A Joke on 2008 Beijing Olympics as a Media Test-Bed · · Score: 2, Informative

I am a track coach and the latest Olympic Trials streaming for track was a joke. They only webcast the same hours they broadcast. No in depth streaming, just re purposed broadcasting. Plus, if I have to watch stories instead of performances I am pissed. NBC is lost when it comes to Track and Field (as opposed to the NCAA where I happily sat at my desk and watched hours of great events. It's Ok to watch streaming as we are a streaming provider and I am the owner, haha.

  4. Re:Linux on Windows XP SP3 Postponed Until 2008 · · Score: 1

With all due respect, I think Linux on the desktop is becoming a reality. Ubuntu is very easy to use. At this point I would say Linux and the Mac both face the same hurdle which is that most consumer games are not available. Fear, Doom, Prey, etc. are all mostly PC titles. A few move to Macs but even the new Macs have very low performance video cards. I have a lot of friends that are setting up their parents with Linux desktops. I agree Linux owns servers but Linux on the desktop is a reality and it is very good right now.

  5. Linux on Windows XP SP3 Postponed Until 2008 · · Score: 1

MS is doing all they can to move people from their crap to Linux. 1. Vista may be installed on one machine and only one change. PC builders like myself change mobos a lot and I will never use Vista if it means having to buy a new copy every second PC upgrade. 2. XP will be orphaned, you wait and see. MS will push people to Vista. 3. Media compatibility is becoming an issue. Windows Media already dropped support for the Mac and have turned it over to Flip4Mac which sucks and MS will never support Linux with theor media player. Flash 9 stands to become the holy grail of complete cross platform compatibility. MS is making some huge strategic mistakes and Linux stands to win.

  8. ajax on Ajax Sucks Most of the Time · · Score: 5, Insightful

ROTFLMAO AJAX is no different than any other programming set of tools. If used correctly it rocks, otherwise it sucks. We use it a lot in our web application and it has provided us the ability to deliver greatly enhanced interactivity and reporting. It's kinda like the blind date that gets overly hyped. The reality will never match the hype even if she was pretty.

  9. I tried it on Microsoft Launches Anti-Virus Public Beta · · Score: 1

Ran this on my wife's computer at home last night. It took over an hout to scan her system and then reported she had 4 viruses. At the end, it then informed me it could not remove the viruses and would I like to report this back to MS? I then ran AVG update and scanned my computer and could find no viruses. Great product, it reports bad stuff and then states it is unable to do anything. WTF?

  10. Blogs versus newspaper webcast on The Fate of The Free Newspaper · · Score: 1

One of our clients recently did a webcast about the impact of blogs on newspapers. The event even had a moderated audience blog. Very mixed results but was seen by a large audience. Windows Media required for the webcast stream and slide show but an MP# can be downloaded (no slides tho). http://www.mediacenter.org/webcast/march/2005/?FLA SH7=1/
