We designed GLOO (that's the middleware running on the HomePod) to be very open. We have an architecture that allows different CODECS to be pluged in. We are offering the source and support to developers to help with this process.
I think we will have an 'ogg' CODEC running on the homepod very quickly once enough units are in developer hands. We use standard a JNI interface to talk to CODECS and all the interface abstractions are accessible from Java.
