Odd thing. All the networks are saying different results at the same times (when you compare the posted times of the updates they make). Not only just that, but I'm sitting here with two computers refreshing on different pages (get the up-to-the-minute stats) and they're all over the place.
CNN has Gore in lead, ABC has Bush, NBC Gore, MSNBC Bush...oh wait! Update! Bush now in the-oh fuck, no, Gore in the lead.
This is silly. In fact, I'm looking at two copies of ABCnews refreshing synchronously, and they're both giving completely different results!! Up-to-the-minute! ha!
Anyone else see a problem with this? Anyone else getting the feeling that the media machine is spinning the electoral college and votes so they can maximize their ratings?
I think people are ignoring a rather important...

The Gnutella Paradox
·
· Score: 2
...fact.
Napster was designed and built from the ground up as a music only file sharing system. All of it's functions are to identify, tag, categorize and distribute mp3 files.
Gnutella, and the others, are not meant to do this - they can share anything and everything, and they do. They don't have code to analyze bit-rates, length, etc..
So, how can anyone attempt litigation against it? It was designed to share anything you want to share, much like FTP. If the RIAA can prevent gnutella from distribution, then well that means FTP, HTTP, gopher... hell, even TCP, all are just as at fault.
Please don't give me that "it's primary use is for mp3 distribution" crap. That couldn't work- it's use was to share files, and mp3's are a.. popular file to share. FTP's primary use could be claimed to be mp3 sharing. Oh no!
This would be akin to saying:
'A gun's primary use is to kill people, so we should make guns illegal. Sorry all you hunters and sportsmen.'
'A knife's primary use is to kill people. Sorry all you cooks, and all you people who want to eat steak. You'll have to use a spork.'
'Oops! Looks like dynamite's primary use is to blow up buildings with people in them. Dynamite should be illegal. Sorry all you ski resorts who want to make things safe by making avalanches. Sorry all you construction crews - your just going to have to use pick-axes.'
I feel that this brings up another good point: can we let the viewpoint of one or two people in the OSS movement be the most prominent viewpoint to the world?
When I think of the OSS movement, I think of a working model of socialism, in the purest Marx way, using information as the legal tender, instead of gold or anything else of value (of course, who says information doesn't have value?)
What I'm getting at is that we as a movement are a collective of thinkers - we all have our own opinions and we all have our own ways of making it better. If we just have one person speaking out for us, wouldn't it be best if they're opinions weren't radically different than that of the status quo?
How far do you think the Civil Rights movement of the 60's would have gotten if Malcom X was leading it instead of Martin Luther King, Jr?
Just a thought..

I whole-heartedly agree. I learned a long time ago in a world called Ultima Online, that the more restrictions you place on people to filter out the bad, the more restrictions your placing on the good. The bad always get around the restrictions - that's what they do best, they're bad. But the good, on the other hand, they get pummeled and the walls around them get smaller - their freedom slowly being taken away.
You see, by keeping Anonymous Posting in this fine establishment, you are actually saying, "We'll give you Freedom of Speech. If you post as an AC, you might start off lower in the score, but hey, you can say what you want."
Now, if you give AC's that power, and enforce these rules, your just putting more restrictions on the people who do good.
I know your dreading my saying this... but moderation needs to be changed. Maybe by making it so when your a moderator, your a moderator for a week, with unlimited points. The first sign of corruption from that moderator would make them lose their status. The unlimited points would allow the moderators to up the articles they enjoy without worrying about spending points to turn posts to Trolls.
Another thing I was thinking of, that would have a DRASTIC effect on the way things are done, would be to actually include the names of the moderators that moderated the post in the header.
This would actually do some great things. With your name up there, your only going to moderate posts where you stand behind your moderation on them. Your not going to moderate a post for the sake of moderating it, or because everyone else is, but because your name is going to be up there for everyone to see, you just might be a little more hesitant. Just an idea...
But the synopsis? If you continue to have Anonymous Coward posting, you continue to support the First Amendment. That means everyone has the right to say anything they want, short of being abusive or causing harm to someone else.
That also means, that if someone wants to say, "Lets kill Bill Gates," they have every right to do so; until Anonymous Posting is taken away.

See where I'm getting at?
Oh... IANAL... heh.
You wouldn't believe this, but now they're at Bitboys. I cannot wait to see the Glaze3D in silicon.

I didn't see anywhere that the 'entity' doing the cracking was an E2K, except in the primary story submission.
When someone can show me that the client is on a E2K, then I'll believe and start wondering how it's eating through keys that fast.
