Actually it does or a massive fuckup due to a newbie mistake lies in your future when you mess up a "but everyone knows that" situation that nobody thought to advise you about. Some understanding of the field saves you from that much even if you don't know the tricky stuff. Thus his plan to work shifts 24/7 was not going to work because the client wanted to actually build stuff (a blast furnace) for most of the day. That's the one that got the section laid off halfway through the job, but there were other newbie mistakes that took the place from very profitable to shut down in less than a year. His previous experience was in sales in a different company but he was confident that he could manage, he even said something like "being a manager doesn't require technical knowledge" and expressed it as a virtue because he could "look at the big picture instead of the technical details". Maybe that works with someone willing to take advice, but flying blind is a different story.
