hell, being a manager doesn't require technical knowledge
Actually it does or a massive fuckup due to a newbie mistake lies in your future when you mess up a "but everyone knows that" situation that nobody thought to advise you about. Some understanding of the field saves you from that much even if you don't know the tricky stuff. A classic example I saw was an Non Destructive Testing manager who spectacularly fucked up a major quote and resulted in the shut down of that part of a company because his newbie mistake was not understanding that you can't use industrial radiography equipment when there are a lot of people standing in the area where you want to use it. Thus his plan to work shifts 24/7 was not going to work because the client wanted to actually build stuff (a blast furnace) for most of the day. That's the one that got the section laid off halfway through the job, but there were other newbie mistakes that took the place from very profitable to shut down in less than a year. His previous experience was in sales in a different company but he was confident that he could manage, he even said something like "being a manager doesn't require technical knowledge" and expressed it as a virtue because he could "look at the big picture instead of the technical details". Maybe that works with someone willing to take advice, but flying blind is a different story.
That first post will all the "cargo-cult" bullshit, the silly spy stuff that would never work and probably about half your stream of shit in the long and pointless thread. "Destroying western civilization" for one thing. What manner of creature are you? What makes you such an expert despite an obvious lack of science education in high school and no effort to catch up since?
The carriers are all nuclear which means they boil sea water to turn steam turbines.
No they boil very clean treated water to run those turbines and they cool with seawater. Lack of high school science is one thing but it doesn't mean you can't catch up later unless there is something like an utter hate of science holding you back.
It requires a vacuum equipped rail gun of quite an incredible length
Only if you want to try for the equivalent of "single stage to orbit". If you were antique enough you'd remember being told why Saturn V rockets were not single stage:)
That's because they are thinking of some kind of quick use weapon and not a mobile listening post you can park on the seabed like the Collins class subs. Also, and more importantly, no US company is going to sell a submarine to Australia (for a very long list of reasons but mainly not giving away technology) but they can sell drones.
Plus they've already sold their Harriers so they're going to have an aircraft carrier for about five years without any aircraft.
The last time they had a plan like that Argentina took advantage of it - however they acted on the announcement and not the actual sale (Invincible) or scrapping (Hermes, Ark Royal) of all the carriers and were caught out.
Yes, but the steam is long gone as a side effect of running the ship or even supplying heating while electricity is in ample supply. Yes some carriers have reactors, but some don't, and even if they do you do not want to throw away the incredibly clean treated water in the turbine loop. That means extra heating for catapult steam, even if it's part of the cooling for the turbine loop that's still an extra complication and a pile of extra pipework even if there's no extra energy being consumed.
Yes I get it - US Federal Government is evil - bring back the King! So now you've said your little political message from the 1700s can we return to the actual topic?
A thing that lowers their reputation a great deal is that people like Baby Bush can get in there without a lot so work (due to family connections) and get a degree despite doing little other than cheerleading. It only takes a couple of those a year to put the entire bunch under suspicion. Then there's the infamous MBA in shouting. Performance of graduates of that (as in a large number of scandals and spectacular failures) indicate that something is badly wrong - either the people going in or something in the Harvard MBA education/training process itself. You could also say that about some other MBA courses run along the same lines but Harvard has the high profile.
The Neocons want to nuke Iran NOW despite the strange situation where Iran is on our side and doing the heavy lifting against ISIS/Daash. That's even nuttier.
Interesting situation - is that a lie or are your earlier anti-science ramblings lies? You choose. You cannot have both and be expected to be taken seriously.
You've been murdered so throughly in these discussions
Ah - so it's a matter of scoring in some pathetic little troll game? A lair and a total loser, how pathetic.
Pathetic namedropping now of two people that do not back up your anti-science agenda at all. You've refused to answer so far but I'll ask it again in a more direct way - what is it that has inspired you to go as deep into enemy territory as Slashdot and push an anti-science agenda? Are you one of those "social media marketing" types we keep hearing about - paid to bash science by some PR firm and thus reduce the influence of climate scientists when policy is considered. If not that, what brings someone like you to a place where nearly everyone respects a field you hate intensely? Why trade words with people you say are destroying western civilization?
Preistley corresponded a LOT and was very much aware of the doubts that had been raised in the years previously. The difference between science and alchemy was that ideas were shared and discussed.
I did not call all non-commercial science a cargo cult.
Of course you did - it's right there at the START of the other thread - which is why I called it out as bullshit.
The mystery here is why you have such a hard-on about trying to show that scientists and engineers cannot be trusted. I'll bet it comes down to dumbed down politics and being a order following useful idiot.
See above - and if I'm junior then dementia must be your excuse for your torrent of shit. What manner of creature are you? Are you some sort of cultist, a political intern, an advertising intern or a student at a bible college? How did you get to the point you are at with so much hate of entire professions but so little understanding of the world you live in? What creates an angry young man like yourself. If you are over 19 - shame on you! Grow up!
It is as a great man once said "cargo cult science"... it presents the seeming of science... the seeming of logic... but is it? And the thing is that only people that are genuine can really tell one from the other.
IT DOES NOT Take responsibility for your own excrement instead of blaming it on somebody else.
You presented yourself in the last argument as a person with insider knowledge of the peer review system and said I was ignorant for suggesting there were problems.
I said you were ignorant for a long list of reasons - starting with you calling all non-commerical science "cargo cult", and going on to you silly little suggested spy tricks that would never work since they are designed to catch plagarists instead of frauds. There were also newbie errors you made that showed you were unaware of what peer review actually was, so yes, the majority of readers on this site do have "insider knowledge" in comparison to the utter rubbish you are trying to inflict on us in your crusade against the "dread forces of innovation". The highlight was how scientists and engineers are apparently destroying western civilization - I got a huge laugh out of that.
Yes - try explaining both to a "normal person". If they can get one quickly they'll get both quickly, and both will initially appear equally arcane. Longer isn't harder, it's just longer. The only thing likely to throw them for a loop is the hex, and I did that in grade school along with Roman numbers. It may be high school now but I'll bet a lot of people still know it on sight.
Sorry kid - that doesn't remotely come close to justify the shower of shit you've been pouring on this page of taking an outlier and pretending everything is like that. Don't give up the day job.
First, I'd like to point out that you ignored the bit where the editor of the Lancet backed up my position. I challenged you to acknowledge that and you just ignored it.
I didn't ignore it, I called you an outright LAIR because the editor of the Lancet does NOT support what you have written. An appeal to authority has to be something from the authority and not just words that you pretend came from them.
Damn - can't mod it up but it really needs it.

Maybe irrelvant and discredited, but definitely still existing and still nutty.

If you wanted a radical you shouldn't have picked someone as conservative as a constitutional lawyer.

Oh really? Your first post and the petty little spy tricks posts prove otherwise. You are clearly full of hate and venom as many examples above show.
Preistley corresponded a LOT and was very much aware of the doubts that had been raised in the years previously.

Take responsibility for your own excrement instead of blaming it on somebody else.
Yes. And it was inspired by what?
Answer - the oxidation of iron didn't fit the phologoston theory so Priestley knew something was missing.
I said you were ignorant for a long list of reasons - starting with you calling all non-commerical science "cargo cult", and going on to you silly little suggested spy tricks that would never work since they are designed to catch plagarists instead of frauds.
