  1. Re:Not bad... on Phish Offers Archive Concert in MP3 · · Score: 1

Ya had to get that "christian" thing in there, eh? Guess I can't be a nice clean Phish fan since I'm Jewish.

  2. I'm glad on Phish Offers Archive Concert in MP3 · · Score: 3

I'm happy that Phish is doing this. Phish is one of the most overworked bands in show-business. By webcasting this show, they get a much-needed break AND do a great public-relations bit.

Also, I'd like to address some of the less mature readers of this site. Calling people names such as "tree-hugger" and "dirty hippie," doesn't do any good, and only shows your ignorance. Not all geeks sit there listening to punk rock; I even know a few who used to be Grateful Dead groupies. I know one who hacks to Beethoven and one who works best while playing rap. (I personally prefer Pink Floyd, Strangefolk, and Guster.).

I would also like to address those who say that this is just an attempt to capitalize on music they "couldn't otherwise sell." Remember that Phish already has several live albums on the market...this is no different. And Phish, in addition, maintains a policy that allows concert-goers to audiotape shows and to circulate those bootlegs. In a way, Phish is one of the most open-source bands around! Their music is for sale so they can eat, but in the end it's free for everyone.

Thank you, Slashdot, for throwing our little piece of sub-culture a bone! :)

This would have been funny if you hadn't put that ignorant "schizophrenia" comment at the bottom. Most educated people know that schizophrenia is a condition whereby a person experiences sensory psychotic breaks, such as hearing voices or feeling things that aren't there.

Much in the spirit of the current hacker vs. cracker debate, I become infuriated when people assume that schizophrenia means multiple personality disorder.

  4. Re:interesting piece of trivia... on Why Most Software Sucks · · Score: 1

No, they said that it would end up shipping with 2,500 known bugs. And as you can see in my original message, the product had yet to ship so they most definitely did not say "2,500 bugs had been found when it shipped."

  5. interesting piece of trivia... on Why Most Software Sucks · · Score: 2

When I was in high school, two alumni came to speak before the student body. The two students worked for Microsoft, and one of them was (at the time) the head of the Internet Explorer development team. He was talking about their upcoming release of IE5, and noted that they still had to fix some bugs before releasing, but that IE5 would ship with approximately 2,500 KNOWN bugs. He also said that this was a relatively low number of bugs, and that he was proud of his team for achieving such a high efficiency level.

Isn't anyone else a little bothered by the fact that Microsoft, and presumably other Big Software companies, have convinced themselves that this is okay? They spend so much coding time adding bloated features with lots of bugs, rather than fixing the ones that are already there. Shameful.

  6. there IS an answer, microsoft... on Sun Claims MS Steals Vision · · Score: 1

If microsoft were smart (which it's not..) they would have MSN Messanger use the TOC servers instead of the oscar servers. That way, AOL couldn't get mad at Microsoft without hunting down other aim clients like gaim and faim that make use of the TOC servers.
