I have a CentOS 5 Server running Web, email, and video server for my house. For backups I bought a USB external enclose that holds 4 drives. It automatically spins them down after (IIRC) about 20 minutes of non-use. Backups run on cron, I check it once every six months.
I was between jobs a few years back after layoffs at Lucent. I took a job at a Compusa to help pay the bills. All our morning meetings were about about doing ANYTHING to hawk an extended warranty. I was told (did not see this first hand) some managers refused to let laptops out the door that did not go out without some type of warranty add-on. Even though I was out of work at the time I told my wife I just couldn't do this and I quit just after a few weeks.
I also wonder how many have purchased a new PC (like me, new laptop), were forced to take Vista, then subsequently had to wipe it out to re-install XP Pro (compatibility issues forced me to install XP Pro).
Yup. I was using 3rd party inks for about a year on my old hp 990. One day I noticed no color on output. I looked inside the printer and the color ink was smeared everywhere. Printer trashed.
I now have a HP 6180 (which I cannot say enough good things about). This uses 6 ink and they are (subjectively speaking) lower cost and relatively log lasting.
No more 3rd part inks for me.
I bet they just waited for this moment. I would have.
Find new AACS crack/app. Wait for the new security updates to be distributed and the obligatory self-congratulations from the issuers. Announce your new crack/app, sit back and watch the fun.
I have FC6 installed. Just disable SELinux on the first boot configuration (this will trigger another reboot). I have had no problems since then.
My first install of FC6 I disabled SELinux after the box was up via the config file and rebooted. Rebooting failed with (what else) a SELinux warning which halted the machine mid boot.

Same here. I just upgraded a laptop last night for total of five systems. All were pain free.

The problem is that most of the "best and brightest" will not go near public service.
