It's for marketing. They want the ability to run a commercial on the ATM. For instance if you have a checking account, they want to display info on how you can open up a CD and get.175% interest instead of the.00001% interest on you current account.
I think there are some people who say they know Java but are not that skilled, but I think 32% is way low. Maybe 65 to 70% of developers really know Java. This is just marketing fluff to try and sell a tool based on MDA which isn't going anywhere fast.
Google will probably keep the front page the same, "simple". I imagine that will launch something like MyYahoo! where you can customize your own page and access your e-mail from there.
What made me dust off my own Dreamcast is the great work being done by I.M.R. Technology. The 80's WOWpack - MAME is excellent and they seems to keep adding new project and versions almost weekly. Check it out.
