  1. God bless America... Please? on Kids Kill, Victim Sues Game Maker · · Score: 1

This seems to be a theme that has been heard before, but sadly is tragic to both life and the and the innocent. While it seems like the game is the SOLE reason that these kids started doing this it is not so. There is a very good chance that the game may have prolonged this rampage instead of causing it. Today the average person is to be calm, reserved, with very little outlet. I myself find first person shooters a very nice way to relax if I am having a bad or rough day. Does this mean that I am going to buy some BFGs like I see on UT2003 and blow the crap out of everything that moves? NO! Many of these people who mimick movies or video games are already violent and mentally off balence. So by the parents suing Take Two is more to get money then justice. Instead of blaming incompitent parenting they blame an innocent company. Take Two is not sending messages that you sould in real life go and kill people, they simply made a sucessful game that is violent. For Take Two to be truely the problem or violent video games in general to be the cause of killing or violence there should at least be more then 1% violent crimes based upon them. There will always be violent people who will take ideas and construe them into wicked ways. People need to open there eyes and see that there are many things that we surround ourselves with that could easily be weapons but are used MAJORLY for good. I for one am sick and tired of the gaming industry getting hit below the belt because of get rich quick schemes and people who do not wish to take responsibility for their actions.

  2. Good read... on Bruce Schneier on Security Tradeoffs · · Score: 3, Interesting

It has been a long time since I have ever seen someone who has the ability to comunicate tech ideas to those who are "non-tech." Unlike most security experts Bruce Schneier seems to use the "uncommon" common sense approach. In the interview Bruce states "There's so much stupid security out there -- in airports, in office buildings, in the government. I wanted to give people the ability to see why some things are stupid and -- to the extent possible -- how to fix them. There are many dangers in the world, both real and perceived, and it's my hope that the book gives people a realistic sense of how to deal with risks and threats." If the US would adopt this man's ideas I would not be astounded by how much money the government would save and how much more secure we would all be.

  3. Thats Business for ya... on Microsoft Dislikes Nations Trying to Escape Lock-in · · Score: 2, Informative

As much of a microsoft critique I am I will however stand up for them on this case. While it does seem like MS is trying to dominate the world markets what they are doing is also business sense to try to keep as many markets as they can. Microsoft is simply getting the backlash from doing this is because they have a large company who has tried to dominate the markets of america. But how many linux people thought when they saw this "Thats where linux will go next." The linux community is looking at this case to become the dominate OS and Microsoft is looking at this case where they want be the reigning champ. But perhaps this is the opporunity that MS will take and become partly open source. To sum this up, Microsoft is doing what a normal business would do at the sign of being dethroned by their enemy (Linux and open source). They are likely still licking their wounds from the Munich case and now they might lose their foot hold in asia is tramatic to anyone. Whether or not MS creates a open source alternitave or Linux steals away Asia, this will be an interesting topic.
