    it wasn't the mistake that set him off, read the exchange, it was the making excuses and blaming the application for behaving incorrectly when it got impossible results back from the kernel

    true, an application in theory COULD be prepared to respond to all potential errors, as long as you don't mind a 200 megabyte binary for hello world

    you don't need a license in most states to own a gun, you have to not be crazy not be a felon not be a drug addict not be an illegal alien and not be a perpetrator of misdemeanor domestic violence and not be subject to a order of protection

    some places like NYC have stricter laws but most places do not.

    you can try this out yourself with about 100 bucks you can buy a Mosin Nagant powerful enough to go through 1/2 inch steel

    if you buy one and take it to a range make sure to hold it tight to your shoulder or it will bruise you badly whn it kicks back, and don't put your eye near the bolt when firing.

    cruise control should suspend when brakes are pressed, in addition the input from cruise control should be masked out in some way by the brakes so even if cc ignores the brakes activation it can't actually fight against the stop

    not just that, but they could end up without a choice in the matter, if they go bankrupt and are carved up and auctioned off, the contract rights they posess will be one of the things sold

    she knowingly and willfully kept weapons in the home with a mentally defective person without bothering to invest in suitably security.

    a real gun safe that will not fail to a crowbar or sledge will run you $400-$1000 depending on size, she could have gone with a smaller unit. or even a little less with just a pistol safe and kept the bolt assembly from the AR in the safe with the pistols.

    an AR-15 alone goes for $800-$1500 depending on maker options and vendor.

    I run linux because i can't be bothered with windows bullshit on my laptop, i have work to do and that laptop is 7 years old.

    i run windows on my desktop because I still play video games, but as i get older i play fewer and fewer games that can't run on linux, both because i play fewer games and more and more will play on linux

    their data may be ok but their software that interfaces it is horribly out of date, it would have been acceptable during the era of streets and trips '97

    with google maps i can put a search string (such as a business name town and state; or even something more generic like Gas town state) in as a destination address and it will automatically retrieve the address if it has it, if there are multiple matches it pops up a (did you mean) dialog then plugs them in for you.

    bonus points for anything that will cost them 100 million to fail to reproduce
    more bonus points at the billion, 10 billions and 100 billion level

    it really just needs a very simple core of functions certified and an interface that less tested code can use to control it.

    parts that need to be a certified finite state machine

    detect when at a floor and open doors only at safe times (when stopped at a floor unless overridden by fire key) and detect when car is over weight limit detect when fire alarm is active

    parts that need to be really damned good code: always travel to specified floor number

    parts that can be done with PHP and javascript if you want: deciding what order to go in to maximize effectiveness, if it gets it wrong worst case scenario is people get pissy and use the stairs, burn some calories
