    Except that, for the same chip model, increased frequency does increase speed. If you take two processors that are identical save for the frequency, the one with the higher frequency will be faster.

    Yes, because your 3.4ghz dual core is faster then my 3.2ghz quad core. This had nothing to do with the Athlons wooping the Pentiums or Intel releasing "slow" Core Duo processors that were "half the speed" of their Pentium 4s.

    Indeed, let's just throw Apple into this for the +1 relevant.

    Yes, faster is always better.

    What we learned is that high GHZ don't necessarily imply a chip is faster.

    he 8 or so iPhone users constantly struggle with connectivity issues just to get email unless it's 8pm at night for some reason.

    That's most likely due to ATTs network. Although when I had my iPhone I never had a problem getting emails on it.

    Email, Calender, Tasks, Contacts, and most importantly Calculator all seem to work just fine on the iPad/iPhone for me.

    Windows Mobile is alright if you're into pen based computing. The iPhone/Android devices are touch based devices though, different paradigms apply.

    Note: I've been using Windows Mobile since it was called PocketPC back in 2000. Yes, I still have an original iPaq, sleeves and all.

    First smartphone was a Windows Mobile device, next one was an iPhone, currently using a Palm Pre, and next month I'm about to purchase an HTV EVO 4G(Android device).

    Yes, yes they do. When I went there to purchase my iPad, the entire sale was done via an iPhone. They have little printers underneath the tables that print out your receipt too.

    You're correct technically, it is an i7 920, however it's running at 4ghz not 2.66 :-P

    Siemens recently ported UGS NX to OS X, so there's that for CAD/CAM.

    Having actually used the app, it contains a lot of music in it(No the music isn't autoactivated) and video.

    The music is cool, there is a short blurb about Ratatat and you can listen to one of their full songs in the app. There is also an article on NIN and their creative process and you can listen as a song morphs from a concept to a fully mastered song while reading about it.

    It's a cool concept, better then Popular Sciences app.

    No. I agree we need to lessen our dependence on oil, if only because it is unsustainable.

    However, that doesn't absolve oneself from the reality of our oil dependent world. He might not need the oil, but the civilization he currently lives in certainly does and nothing you say will change that fact. As much as you would like to, you can't wish it away. Unfortunately a major change won't come about because of two or three John Does deciding to live sustainably, it will happen when we decide to use alternative energy sources at a large scale or when we starve ourselves of energy. Since we need that oil, we will keep drilling, deeper and deeper.

    Oil is a fungible good, eventually we're going to have to start drilling at 5000' or really start ramping up alternative energy production to maintain our current standards of living.

    And guess what, it's not a simple on-off switch, so we're still going to have to drill at 5000' while we switch to these new gee whiz energy sources.

    The point of the relief well is to relieve pressure on the main well and then seal it safely.

    Do you realize what kind of political fallout BP would receive if they were actually wasting time trying to salvage the well?

    Seems like they're trying to dodge the DoJ by adding "competition."

    Regardless this is pretty nice, it means I can developed for my iPad/Phone/Pod on my core i7 desktop rather then my 4 year old iMac.
