I don't think many people realise how much trust and faith we put into our regular, favourite search engine. To give us unbiased, uncensored and trustworthy results to our queries.
The Chinese don't want their leaders; they just have no choice right now. The previous freedom campaigners were killed by tanks, remember? Google has badly let them down.
I won't be using google anymore. This was a bad, stupid decision. Shame on you, Google.

Cache size management is on the TODO list for WW.
It's a reasonably complicated extra layer, so I decided to get the transmission protocol rock solid before implementing it.
The website also says:
"Right now, WW is only known to build and run on Gnu-Linux based operating systems. If you try some other platform, let me know how you get on."
Thanks for the report; What platform were you compiling on?
WW links against a general library (hence the joystick stuff amongst things, which is not necessary and discarded at linktime.
I think to label a modern 'Gnu/Linux distro' as such is useful in that everybody then understands what you mean, but rather unfair.
Rather like calling the English football team "Rooney and his mates"
The gnu tools and linux kernel, though important, are an ever diminishing part of the whole.
Indeed, it was suggested on the Rubyx mailing list a while ago that the Linux kernel become just one of several selectable kernels, Linux, BSD, Hurd...
Then what would it be called? "Operating System" sounded sensible to me:)
How much can you convey in 1 paragraph? Maybe I did a bad job, but I did at least expect/prime (with "can you guess") the ruby/perl/python flamefest.
But a few people were intelligent enough to pick out the salient points, or were bothered to read the website. And then downloaded 8Gb of Rubyx overnight. (Hang the cost; It made me smile!)
For those of you who somehow missed those salient points:
Rubyx is 'yet another linux distro', that builds from source (like gentoo). It is _not_ an OS written in ruby.
But it's different because...
Rubyx can be created, with a single command, using the rubyx script. With a second command, you can create a bootable Rubyx CD/DVD. The same script handles ALL subsequent package management.
Reread that last bit. This is one small script we are talking about, written in the ruby language.
I wrote the new init system inside 2 days. Go figure. A complete init replacement in two days.
Yes, I'm a fan of ruby. Its the most writable, readable scripting language I have tried. Could Rubyx have been done in another language? Surely. But, I argue, not as quickly, elegantly and maintainably.
The article seems to suggest file sharing is illegal. It isn't. Infact by creating this reply I've shared a file with slashdot. OH NO - LOCK ME UP!
Sharing copyrighted files may well be illegal, depending where you are, but anonymous distributed filesharing (Freenet et al) make is near impossible to police. And of course, filesharing is a global activity; There are no border patrols and you don't need a passport.
So the difference any new US laws or licensing will make is... zero
Give up, go home and have a bud. But NEVER feed the lawyers

:) Thanks! I'm working on BSD this weekend BTW
Very well said. I was just too jaded to bother :)

;) Hadn't thought of that... It was actually a tip of the cap to the BitTORRENT guys. Get it??

:)
How would you phrase it? Non-root user?
The stable version does semi-parallel startups. (Probably enough for most needs - see the script for details)
I am testing a simple variation of the init scipt which does it properly. I'm pretty happy with it and will probably release it in rubyx version 38.
