Soldiers and police are increasingly becoming the same thing. Their job, basically at the end of the day, is to kill poor people and protect the wealth of the worldwide elite. You guys may think this is a nifty idea because it will "save soldiers and police lives" but in the long run it is just another tool at their disposal to keep us oppressed and in check.
Imagine a world where you could recharge your cell phone by finding a coin op fuel dispenser unit (which could be as ubiquitos as pay phones in urban areas)..
Some of my friends like to bemoan how we will never be able to get off of oil dependence but I tell them "necessity is the mother of invention".
Because its based on no reality whatsoever. We have a huge problem over there with light armored vehicles that are quite vulnerable to RPG attacks (and our enemies know this). Indeed, soldiers are forced to resort to their own methods -- strapping old flak jackets to the outside, welding steel plates, etc..
What I don't understand with this electric armor is if it is only a one-shot deal. Once the "capacitor" is compromised from a shot, the entire plate of armor would be rendered inoperable would it not?
I disagree completely, sir! Eye-candy is EXTREMELY important! Computers should be works of art as much as possible -- this should not necessarily mean at the expense of functionality of course.
Look at the world of cars. Look at BMW, for example.
I used to love coffee but eventually switched over to the wonderful world of TEAS. I feel much better on a good green tea buzz than any coffee buzz and my stomach does too!
I should also suggest yerba matte -- actually quite tasty and a different kind of herbal stimulant than caffeine
An artillery shell shoudl fit in the trunk of a car. And these were made in the late 50's if I recall correctly.
Not too worried about that. A shell big enough to house such a warhead would have to be quite large (and thus quite heavy, on the order of 3,000 lbs I would think). You would have trouble getting such an object into the bonnet of any car.
Well XP really *does* look quite nice and pretty compared to 2000..
If I'm going to be doing any switching, it's going to be a Mac G5.
I recently really dove full in to Linux as my desktop. I completely wiped Windows off my machine and ran Linux in the shape of first Fedora and then SuSE (which I preferred and stuck with) for one full month before having had enough and re-installed XP.
I'm really amazed at how far Linux has come but its still unfortunately lacking in what I consider (personally speaking) to be necessities for my workstation computer. (won't go into those here)
Give Linux another 4 years and it'll be in a position to Really f*ck with Microsoft.
For me, personally, switching back to Mac (left in the Copland days for NT 4.0) will be very fulfilling technically as well as asthetically for me.
Linux's day is yet to come still.. But its coming!
Inch by lonely inch, the Open Source Movement/Linux/whateveryouwannacallit matures and grows more powerful.
And M$ says they won't release a new version for (what was it?) three years? Five?
Meanwhile the opensource coders and fans continue whittling away in the trenches, refining their dreams and ever more gradually making MS look pretty damned bad and ugly.
I think of where Linux distros are today compared to 5 years ago -- and I think about where they will be 5 years ahead!!
Of all the competitors out there, Yahoo poses the most direct threat to Google. my.yahoo.com was rated in the top 5 of Amazon's Alexis service.. And Google's search technology has become increasingly sucky due to spammers taking advantage of their algorithms to flood the search results with their crap.
This will be a good thing for everyone, methinks. The search engine war needs to get heated up a little bit as it has cooled down too much.

Someone please show me even one computer that has everything from case to motherboard to CPU to RAM to HD etc made in the USA. I'd say one would be hard pressed to find one that was even 20% home-made.

Growing up in Austin, Texas, I know many local rather famous (in their own right) artists who for these very reasons decline to ever sign with a major label and stay indepedent.
Of course we know all these stories here on/. about the indy artists who actually see real cash benefit from releasing their works for free on P2P networks.
I refuse to believe that we hit on the fitness maximum on the first try; there have to be technologies out there that are far faster/cooler/smaller.
Indeed. One need look no further than the human brane to see that there are entirely different directions "technology" (as it were) can go towards.. Perhaps "the computer as we know it" is about to hit its theoretical maximums..

A Mac won't save you. Check out some of those URL's people posted here of malware sites that work just dandy even in Mozilla and even on Macs.
